I've not had any problem with the standard brake fluid, even when pushing things really hard (like at my last track day). I did get a brake flush (fresh fluid) in preparation though.

I'd flush the system with Super Blue, personally. Better safe than sorry.

Hey btwx, how are those track masters DEs? Or Speed Ventures? I am going to check out the speed ventures this weekend at Laguna Seca just to watch not participating, figure I'll do Seca with BMWCCA for $50 more.

OP: Try New Jersey Motorsport Park, Pocono, Summit Point.

Track masters seem like very reasonable people, though I only did the one day with them where Jerry (Sidarthur) was coaching, so I can't say how their coaching is, but I was impressed with their attitudes. I'm contemplating doing another day with them sometime later in the year, they have some Infineon dates and I'd like to have anther go at Infineon.

I only know what Speed Ventures say on their website, I've had no experience with them. Most of my experience has been with Hooked On Driving, and I like them a lot. My next planned outing is Hooked on Driving at Laguna in October.

To add to an old thread, both Trackmasters and Speed Ventures are now on my list of organisations I'd track with, along with Hooked on Driving. We did an event at Infineon in October, it was shared by Trackmasters and Speed Ventures. They both seem like reasonable organisations. They both seem less "squeamish" about discussing things like lap times than Hooked are. They did a very good job of coaching the wife and speeding her up a bit.

With Hooked, Trackmasters and Speed Ventures I can get a very wide selection of available dates at all the local tracks. I'll be doing some days with Hooked at Thunderhill early next year, and possibly with Speed Ventures at Buttonwillow later in the year.

There is a big reason for the "squeamish" ness for lap times. Most auto insurance policies excluded coverage when in a racing facility and racing or practicing to race. SO schools call themselves HPDE and why if I am just trying to become a better street driver, does a lap time matter? BUT for racing, a lap time is everything, the quickest lap time whens a race.

So you totalled you car at a track day, and your insurance carrier declines the loss stating the racing exclusion. If they find out the schools allows timing and you where timing, it would be most difficult to win that agruement.

I'm not saying that schools don't have very good reasons for being squeamish about lap times. However...

I find its a very handy diagnostic. What criteria are you using for "better"? lap time is a particularly easy criteria for better. If you can reduce your lap time, while expending less effort, I'd say that was "better". Without some objective criteria you really have no idea how well you're doing.

The BMW clubs and Porsche club strictly prohibit timing. You are correct, it tells us a lot about how you are driving. But when you are walking a fine line with insurance, timing can make it go against you. The claim rep you are explaining this to has no idea what HPDE is but he knows that racing is a "timed" event. Street driving is not a timed event. It is about getting there safely.

Cool, Thanks I want to get more affordable Laguna Seca and Sears Point dates so I'll check'em out.

Corner exit speed is a great metric when lap times are prohibited. Speed is proportional to time when distance is fixed.

If you find yourself going faster each time you come up to a corner you are doing better (at least until you find the grass ! !......LOL)
