Well, until F1 and Nascar can make a woman react like this lady in a WRC car, I'm gonna still have to say WRC FTW!

It's too bad that the other 39% of Speed is more crap starring this douche or a show produced by him for his douche buddies.

....which is understandable! It definitely becomes overkill. I would take road racing over oval racing any day. I don't know what you're expecting, but when one racing league is BY FAR the most popular racing in the United States, of course it's going to get the most coverage. They're obviously not going to televise F1 all the time, because they only race every two weeks (typically). NASCAR opens to the public on Thursday, Practice and qualifying on Friday, Practice and racing on Saturday, and Racing on Sunday. That's 4 days of racing prep and/or racing. Take 3 days off and start over.

There needs to be more than one "Speed" type channel out there that covers just racing because it seems like 90% of that channel is crap in my opinion.

Still, with that said, it's still not fair for you to claim that NASCAR is not racing. Come on...you can still say the words in the same sentence. I know you can do it! LOL

I forgot about DTM, the European version of NASCAR. I agree.

The average age of an F1 driver is what, 23, 25? Once they hit 30 and up, they can't take a beating as well. Look at old man Coulthard. He's the oldest and anymore he sucks. These guys are like marathon bicyclists. I heard once that rookie drivers, if unprepaired, can puke in the car from the vibration running through the cockpit.
Yes, the G's are hard--but that's different than what I was talking about, and that's the muscle required to drive a stock car. You have to have a fair amount of sheer physical brute strength; the car has to be "muscled" much more than a F1 car. This is why there is serious concern wether someone like Danica Patrick can survive in NASCAR--she is a petite person, and physically may not be able to endure a 500 mile workout in a stock car.

Here's an even playing field thought: I just saw -- while on the elevator heading down in my office building to grab some much needed coffee -- a guy in a Renault F1 team shirt, with all the advertising.

It was no more or less ridiculous than a NASCAR one.

But far, FAR less common. An anomaly in this country, unless you happen to be at an F1 race.

If I see another SUV or Pick-up with some NASCRAP driver's number on it, I shall

The EXACT same thing is happening at F1 races....people wearing the attire of their favorite driver, favorite manufacturer, etc. What the hell is the difference between people wearing Ferrari Red and waving Ferrari flags than a #24 or #48 NASCAR banner hanging from a motor home or Dale Earnhardt Jr.s Budweiser Red in the stands last year?

So you're basically saying that it's STATUS that makes F1 far more superior than NASCAR, right!??! Just because a Ferrari or a McLaren is "racing" makes it all the more acceptable to wear attire from your favorite driver or marque. Give me a break. Sorry, but just because a Ferrari or a McLaren is out running laps doesn't make it the most superior racing circuit in the world.

I have no earthly idea where you came up with that second paragraph because I said nothing of the sort. That sounds like your own prejudices, don't transfer them to me. When I was in the UK with Uncle Sam, you never saw a lot of cars or people attired in F1 decals or colors. AT THE RACE it's different. And should be. That's the event where it all happens. And I certainly don't begrudge fans at Daytona from dressing up and such.... AT THE RACE.

What I dislike is the almost non-stop, in your face, media bombardment to the exclusion of all other forms of motorsport. TV, papers, and Bubba's F150.

It wasn't a fat guy with gray hair and blue glasses was it? Maybe he had a girl half his age hanging off his arms? FLAVA FLAV!

I must have read that wrong as I thought you were making reference for the F1 attire to be ok and the NASCAR attire to be ridiculous. My mistake.

MY prejudices toward status?!?!! How can status not be brought up when any bashing pertaining to NASCAR HAS to make some sort of reference to hillbillies, inbreeding, hicks, rednecks, trailer trash, trailer parks, "Bubba"....do I really need to go on? That's been my experience anyway.

Thank you. We live in a very, very redneck part of CA. Hate it. But that's my point of reference.

Absolutely...during prohibition. But NASCAR wasn't formally organized until the late 40s or something like that. I guess that's reason enough for people to call NASCAR fans trailer trash, hillbillies, hicks, etc. 50 or so years later.

True. Of course that was back when there WAS a bog. It, and the bog-people disappeared thirty years ago.

This ridiculous thread was, IMHO, started not to discuss NASCAR but to stir up a bunch of nonsense.

Of course you don't want the thread to end . . . you started it! LOL.

Anyway, it is pointless to ponder whether NASCAR qualifies as a form of racing or not. I don't really believe most F1 fans give it much thought.

My intent for the thread was:

A) to find out what the thoughts of NASCAR were in the MINI community. I wanted to know if this community, like many others, felt that NASCAR was a ridiculous excuse for fracing. The first post after mine answered what would be expected.

B) If NASCAR was not considered racing, I wanted to hear reasoning as to why it's any less racing than F1 (which based on my experiences has much less "racing" than NASCAR).

I'm still waiting for the reasoning part of it. I'm sorry, let me clarify...the INTELLIGENT reasoning for why NASCAR is not considered racing.

Then why didn't you simply name the thread nascar and leave it at that. By naming it what you did, you knowingly invited controversy. And of course there are many more forms of motor racing besides the two you intentionally pitted against each other.

People have given you their reasons for not liking nascar, which you dismiss out of hand as unintelligent. That's a great was to be taken seriously, not.

No, you wanted a controversial thread, and that's what you got. Be careful what you wish for.
