Get out your calandars !! Road & Track magazine is sponsoring The Ultimate Mini Challenge as part of the U.S. Sports Car Invitational at Laguna-Seca Raceway October 3-5. It's classic Minis vs. new MINIs in a race all their own. I bet it will be a hoot to watch !! I hope the Speed Channel, ESPN or some network will broadcast the race. Other races include vintage sports car and CanAm/Prototype cars. I couldn't find a schedule of activities yet but the track website is below.
Can't wait to see it ! ! ! !

Best Regards,
Ron

Wish I could attend - but it's a little too far right now. More info on the event here

With the different engine sizes it will be hard to handicap a Classic Mini to a new MINI.

They could not have picked a better race course for this. I have driven this track many times in the early 70’s and know it is one of the most underrated/unknown – professional race tracks in the US. The “Corkscrew” alone is worth the drive.

I’ll be watching for the race, but please keep us informed if you get further information.

The ultimate Mini Challange race was kind of a let down. Three MCS in the race and one dropped out. A little farther back were two older classic Mini's that have been featured in Grassroots Mag. These were the highlight of the race. And far behind were a couple other cars. The race for the lead was over too soon. I expected many more cars. The CanAm race only had 6 cars and 2 dropped out. The race for first was pretty good though, but 6 cars?!!!!. The historic Nascars were pretty good and the Porsche races were good. But the reason I drove down was for the Mini race. The Mini corrall was fun and the drive around the course was outstanding. Overall, the day at laguna was so-so because of the sparce number of cars on the track and the $40 to get in was way to steep.
I think the Aug. Historics will be my only race weekend next year.

Yes I agree. Just a few MINI's for the MINI race was kind of a let down. Seeing all the MINI's that showed up for the MINI Corral was fun, but the race was a bummer.
