Well done NAM-ers! The results aren't in at PickSix yet but I did a little quick math and it looks like we may have done well again as a group.
Everyone got picks in before the race start and, if you're new to this game, that's sometimes more important than picking well. We have an excellent example from garyp this time. Looks like he picked ahead of time, just in case - note the words in his comments section "placeholder picks in case I get abducted by aliens between now and qualifying". He ended up with 27 points (IF my math is right) and though that may not seem like a lot, it's obviously better than zero, right? Moral of the story: put in some best-guess picks early (like I forgot to do this time) just in case.

Well, it's been 3 weeks but it's finally time for another race. Every time they take a 3-week break I tend to lose track, and this break was no different, but I just watched the quali and made my picks. There are 8 1/2 hours to go and 5 of us with no picks in.....yet.....

Hey, speak for yourself! (kidding!)
Yup, another great week for some of us (myself NOT included). Adame and Scottinbend did particularly well -- if my quick tally is correct you each pulled 46 points this time! Bonus points are in effect after the first 3 races but I don't think we had any of those this week unless I'm missing a driver in the "dark horse" category.

WOW! The Canadian GP never fails to surprise.
Hamilton's pitlane error (nee shunt) really crossed up my pick six!
Well, there's still alot of races left to score points.
I think that maybe for next year's Canadian GP I'll make my picks using a dartboard!

On the plus side, I bet just about every PickSix-er is in the same boat.
However, some will surely have taken a chance and picked Kubica to win. After the first 3 races of the season, a "first time winner" pick nets 5 bonus points.....and on a low-scoring race like this one 5 points is a good boost.

I've been forced to pick early the last couple of races. I was at the Weatherly Hill Climb since Friday and even forgot to set the DVR to Fox instead of Speed. Wow, what a surprise on the outcome. Good for Kubica and BMW.
It looks like I'll be in the same boat for Magny-Cours. That is the weekend of the Pagoda Hill Climb but I'll be staying at my brother's place so I might at least get to see the qualifying. All the drama makes for an interesting season.

Hey folks, I figure after a 3 week break it might be a good idea to remind you all that there's finally another race coming up - don't foget to get those picks in!
Congratulations to geowit, mgcman and ScottinBend who are all still ranked in the top 10.
Here's something curious I just noticed. If you go to the Pick6 site and look in the standings, it says the guy ranked as the leader (elasticaman) has only picked 10 races while everyone else anywhere near the lead has already picked 11. At least, that's how it came up when I checked it a few minutes ago.

Man did I get good and hosed by Hamilton's demotion by the stewards. What went from a mediocre race for me turned into a disaster. Oh well, that's what happens when a devoted tifosi, goes against the Scuderia, if for only one race.
Congrats are in order for our NAM F1 Challenge champion!!
Here's the podium
Geowit
MGCMAN
Kurvhugr
Overall we weren't too shabby either, one of us made the big podium as well
Geowit 3rd overall
MGCMAN 11th overall
Kurvhugr 15th overall
Remember only 132 days to the 2009 season starts!

Thank you, thank you, thank you!
I must admit there's more luck than skill contributing to my finish. Boy, those guys from Melbourne sure are a tough lot. Participating in the PickSix really helped keep my interest peaked. I normally DVR all the races but I don't always get to watch them when I'm away at a race weekend. There were a couple of times I either had to make my picks early or call my daughter and have her fill them in for me. Can't wait for next season. It should be even more unpredictable.

Yes, well done all! We usually start the season with a small group and end it even smaller; glad to see so many or our original team hung in to the end.
I think the Melbourne group is actually just everyone else. If I understand the system right, you can register a team and then register individually as members of that team, but if you register generically you're automatically in the Melbourne group. There are folks from Melbourne in there as well, but their joined by folks from around the world, including the US. So, we're really the only bunch who choose to have an identity. I think we even have 1 or 2 who no longer post on NAM but still register each year as part of our PickSix group.
As geowit said (congrats on the "podium" finish by the way), next season should be even more unpredictable. That's what makes things like PickSix fun. It gets pretty dull when the biggest challenge is trying to decide why you shouldn't just pick the qualifying lineup each race.
Thanks for playing along this year. Assuming nothing crazy happens, I'll talk to the Little Comish again a month or so before the season starts and make sure the NAM team name is again registered and ready to go. Here's hoping we can get at least as many on the team next season!

I can't believe I forgot about this -- thanks for the reminder! I've been looking forward to the racing this season and so busy with other things I haven't even logged in here for a few months. Moving on...
If no one objects, I'll contact the Little Comish and be the go-between again this year. I'll start a new (2009) thread and also post in the regular F1 discussion thread to see if I can interest anyone else in playing along this year. Sorry to be so late starting this, esp. since it usually takes some time to raise interest.....oh well.
For those who played last year.....the way I remember it, the group remains from one year to the next and should therefore still be available. If you were registered as part of the group last season you should show up as part of the group again if you go in and pick this year. Anyone interested should just go ahead and log in there, make some preliminary picks just to make sure everything looks good, and let me know if anything looks odd.
If you need any reminders on how things work, go back and scan the first page of this thread.
cheers - steve
