2008 Formula 1 Discussion
Understood. My feeling is that we don't need yet another revision of the rules. Unfortunate situation, but apparently Rubens is only one who missed the light.
I personally would prefer to see a return to the days when F1 didn't even have pit stops . . . much less promote them for strategic gain.
Unfortunately, focus groups had their say years ago and therefore we have had to endure pit stops as a part of modern Grand Prix racing.
Technical marvels aside, I'd be happy to awake tomorrow morning at some circuit circa 1977.

Some of the best racing ever in F1, was before the turbo age. The epic Hunt-Lauda battles were incredible.
Did anyone else know they were going to broadcast the race again this afternoon? I happen to be home and was shocked to see it listed on the channel guide - they're up to the 3rd SC period so I missed most of it. Do they do this often? Seems unusual to me.....
Well there's no NAPCAR race this weekend to start previewing so they have to show SOMEthing....

You are providing a much appreciated public service. The Speed website has to be one of the worst web sites ever uploaded to the web. They cram so much useless nonsense on there that it is almost impossible to navigate.
Thanks
Just in keeping with all the useless nonsense they cram into their broadcasting.
They always re-air the race during the day if it's at "night." And then again on Wednesday most weeks, but sometimes not if it isn't a polular circuit or there's a whole bunch of other stuff going on. They used to do qualifying again right before the race, but doesn't look like that's the case any more.
The F-1 guys aren't bad, but try watching any other racing broadcast on any channel, don't these guys know how to shut up? Cheeze louise, they natter on incessantly!
Clues............
"It bears repeating" No, it doesn't
"I've said before" Yes, so you don't need to say it again!
"Like I said before" So stop saying it already!

Hobbs is great. I DO wish they'd do more after race coverage not just the top three conference. I think they're starting the review show this weekend though where they review the previous weeks race. I think it's a hour long.
Edit: I just went to check the time of the 'review' show and now i can't find it. I swear it was listed a week ago. Of course, they have the F1 races all marked as being in HD so that shows how good there listing is.

I know what you mean, so if I can find it I'll post it. I'm not sure about the qualifying info this time though. Speed lists it without the (L) to indicate a live broadcast but the time (Sat, 2 a.m. EST) matches what I get at formulaone.com.....looks like a live broadcast to me.
And this week my tv shows the same times that kurvhugr listed. Too bad there was so much confusion last week (and I suspect, some missed the start).
MINIdave--you are SO right about the other channels' commentary. I loathe the ones that CBS has contracted for each year.
These guys haven't a clue how to announce races when the cars don't have big numbers on the side them (and I won't vouch for races where they do), but I have this thing about seeing races live, so I persist in torturing myself. Anyone know which shows CBS has this year? Please tell me Monaco isn't one of them...
You're correct--the "review" show is at Midnight, CST, on Saturday A.M., immediately before qualifying.

Lawdie, Lawdie--thank you! Must be because NASCAR has taken so much of their programming schedule--if they carry it, that is. Or because the great unwashed masses don't know what F1 is.
Speed has a few decent shows. Maybe. There is a few episodes of Pinks I'll watch, maybe 3 of them. Pass Time can be neat if the car lineup is good. Other than that, occasionally I'll watch the off road races, monster trucks, or maybe a moto race. That's if there's nothing else on. They do carry DTM which is awesome to see covered here, albeit very little of it, in the states. Think F1 is hard to find? Try following DTM or worse yet, FIA truck racing. Used to be on the old Speed Channel. Now, the new one that's been on for how long 5 years, 7 years?, dosen't carry it at all.

I like Pinks, and the monster truck events. But they're not high on my list.
I'm watching the practice session and noticed another positive change relative to last year. You no longer hear that bizarre engine note that was caused when the traction control systems kicked in. This year the engine note on track is controlled entirely by the driver's foot.
Wow! Ferrari front row with Phil in the front!
Fred got to Q3, so a steady improvement at Renault.
AND BOTH MCLARENS BUMPED FIVE GRID SPOTS FOR BLOCKING! WHOA! Lewie the Brat is right behind Fred.

Ah, but will they last? I've read different theories (even from Ferrari) about what might have caused their problems in Melbourne.....we'll see.....
Also, 50% probability of rain, and no driver aids.....

You are right, we might be in for quite a blast from the past - a rain race sans traction control!
I certainly hope we'll see less attrition tonight . . . especially from the Ferrari powered cars.
