LSD installation on the TEAM MCO Cooper S
Mark:
Nice photo essay of the LSD install, any chance to get some narrative going so we have a better idea of what we are looking at?
Also, I have a question about LSD's. On a car with such a short wheel base and narrow stance, does an LSD really contribute that much to improving performance?

I had the chance to drive the car a bit yesterday and in everyday around town driving you really don't notice any difference. Its very streetable...just like a LSD installed as part from the factory would be.
We'll be doing some test and tune work over through the end of the month and our next event is July 5th at World Arena in Colorado Springs.

I'll have more of a How-to like article published sometime next week that will explain more of what you are looking at. Also, the current picture set HERE has captions under each so you know more of what the picture is of.

For everyday driving its not critical. For autocrossing I think its critical for the class we run in because other cars in the class have it. The big benefit to a LSD is that in turns the typical open differential can only put power down to one wheel. Unfortunately this is usually the wheel that has the least amount of traction (eg - the inside wheel). The outside wheel, having the most traction, gets no power. The result is that all power goes to the inside wheel which starts it spinning (ie - turning HP into smoke).
In normal everyday driving where traction control can be used you won't notice this much because as soon as a wheel starts spinning the management software kicks in an cuts power or applies braking force when necessary.
An added benefit to the LSD is that it should actually assist getting around in the snow since you have two wheels pulling.
A LSD is usually a good thing in any car regardless of wheelbase.
Hope this helps
