Bearing recall TSB procedures

Our 2014 S went in today 9000 miles

What specific procedures are required by the techie to determine if the bearing is bad?
OR Bad enough to warrant a new engine?
Checking a bushing/bearing on a crank entails significant dis-assembly.

They drop the oil pan, not huge deal.
Check the bearing for wear.
Seems on some, the crank articulates for an aft, newer bearing is purportedly stronger and a bit thicker than original.

Dealer will take pictures of the bearing and crankshaft to send to MINI. They make the final decision of whether to replace the bearing or the motor. On my car the crank was scored so badly that you could feel it with your fingertip. MINI instructed my dealer to bag and tag the bearing and motor and install a new crate motor. I just did an oil change at 1100 miles and everything seems to be good as new.

When the dealer performed the campaign and you went to pick up your MINI, was there any discussion on what viscosity of oil they refilled your crank case with ?

Standard 5W30 Mini branded.

Correction: After calling the dealer back, I talked to someone who actually checked the w/o. They filled it with 0W20 Mini Oil.

So just picked up a 14 MCS 6MT and it is going in for recall issues on Tuesday.

The dealer that I purchased it from (Non-Mini dealer) had changed the oil right before I purchased it.

Do you guys think that these metal shavings would still be in the pan, or would they have been cleared out a bit from the oil change that was done? I just don't what Mini determine that there isn't an issue due to the lack of shavings that could have already been removed.

They should drop the pan and inspect the bearings and bearing surfaces on the crankshaft for damage/scoring.

Man I hope that they replace the engine. I would rather have a new engine than a replaced bearing.
Car goes in Tuesday, fingers crossed....

Just called for a 13K oil change and was told of a loaner car and crankshaft inspection with engine replacement as a possibility. Dropping the S off on Monday afternoon. They said they actually have replacement engines in stock. We'll see...

My car sucks after the engine replacement, best of luck to you but my car is not the same. Sport mode is pretty much gone except for the burble and my car has NO over boost. It's like it's not even a turbo anymore.

Dropped mine off today and the Service guy told me that they haven't seen any engine replacements yet and just bearing replacements. Thought that was strange after all the stuff I have read on forums. Will find out in the next day or so I guess...

The bulletin for bearing replacement came out months ago, engine replacements practically came to screeching halt....odd any of the dealers are still doing them in such frequency....

If you have a 2014, then the engine oil label was removed from the engine bay in a campaign months ago...And after bearing campaign, another section of that campaign says to refills crank case with 0W-20, not the 5w-30.

Called today saying that it was just the bearing that needs to be replaced. Not sure if its a good or bad thing? Time will tell. Should get it back tomorrow.

Loaner is a 2015 auto and it feels a little bit quicker than my 14 6MT hmm.. Hopefully a software thing? We will see once I get it back

Why aren't you camped out at the dealer getting them to fix it? I got mine back on Wednesday and so far after the replacement it feels fine. I'm going through the standard break-in but goosed it once pretty good while getting into traffic (in normal mode) and no problem.

They claim nothing can be done..."no codes mean no problems" found about 6 people with the same problem. They claim my car is fine which is ********. I haven't given up yet. Some lady from MINI corp said she would contact me within a week. I'll believe it when I see it she was supposed to email mail me all her contact info which I NEVER go so who knows.

Finally got the car back and looks like they only replaced the crankshaft guide bearing along with the side crash pads and changed some stickers?

Car feels good and I have my fingers crossed that everything will be ok. No new motor, but we shall see as time goes by.
