Battery replacement
Battery replacement
Hello
I have been here before, and introduced myself, but it seems like that membership is no longer available to me, so I started this one.
I have a 2008 Clubman S.
I have an issue with my battery. I started getting error type message on my dash readout as well as having to reset my clock every time I got in the car.
If I replace the battery (Battery Plus sells them for $107) will I need to have the systems reset at a Mini Dealer/import auto service center?
I looked into having a dealer replace the battery and they wanted about $400. Which option is the better one...why...and what is the cost to reset the system (if needed)
Thank you.

This quote from a member here on the thread you posted seems to say it all.
"they are trying to RIP you off.
There is NO REASON to reprogram the car to have a new battery installed"
I do have a question though. Is it common for there to be consistent dash error codes (I use that term loosely because I am not sure what you might call it) such as "seat-belt system and or airbag system is not working properly" as well as having to reset the clock when the battery is getting low of failing?
Thanks again...

The seat belt/air bag issue could be just that. My passenger seat has been throwing errors for some time now. The seat sensor is a full sized mesh and I'm sure there are some deteriorating connections therein. The only options are to replace the whole seat or live with it. So far, it has not changed my life style but having little lights on where they shouldn't be is still awkward.
It did not go well.
I ended up having a import auto shop that I have always used replace the battery (original equipment). The error message continued when the car was shut off and restarted.
They told they did not have one of the proprietary instruments that Mini uses to reset the unit they believed to be the problem. Took the Mini to the local BMW/Mini dealer. I called mid day and they informed that the tech who was working on it had just turned over to the shop foreman as he was "stumped".
Later in the day they called to inform me that they need to keep it over night again. He then told me they were going to turn it over to Mini USA for what he called a "TC case" or "Puma case". Something about using a data base to see if anyone else at any Mini repair shop has encountered this particular error.
Sooooo....what he heck is this?
