Question Extended Motorer Protection Program?

Greetings,

I am impatiently awaiting my new Countryman S ALL4 to be loaded on its cruise ship to come live with me--I've named it Lisbeth :-). I was interested in requesting some feedback on MINI's Extended Motorer Protection program. We have gotten extended warranties for virtually all our vehicles, and in each case it's been a worthwhile investment. However the one from MINI is pretty pricy. Here's a snip from the email I got from my dealership when I asked about it (I was looking into the XXL level which covers the radio & other electronics):

Here are the prices on the extended warranty through MINI North America ( please see the attachment)

7year/100,000 miles – 3950.00
7 year/70,000 – 3550.00
6year/100,000 – 3430.00
5year/100,000- 2900.00

Anyone out there have experience with teh MINI program? Deductible is $50. TIA for any feedback!

~Amy

I have been thinking about this too. My dealer did not have pricing when I spoke to him about it. Those are pretty high prices. When I purchased my acura, I found a dealer on line that sold the extended coverage with a reasonable mark up. Not sure if that happens in the mini world but the difference was about $800....

I have Fidelity Warranty Services.Actually, when I purchased my MCS '07 the dealer thru it in to make the deal at another 3yrs 36,000 onto the excisting 50,000.My mini dealer, Mini of Annapolis, said it was the best in the aftermarket warranties and deals alot with them with no issues.I have'nt used them yet but I'm about to expire at 50,000 on Mini warranty.Look into them as I do understand alot of dealerships use them.Especially with a first year vehicle you never know what quirks it might have.

Easy Care

Thanks, I will check them out as well. When I told the dealer that I wanted an extended care warranty, but the one from MINI was rather expensive, they recommended Easy Care. But theye were a couple of things I was not crazy about.

Thanks,
Amy

Those prices are a rip off...best deal is with Geico...costs you $30 every 6 months with $250 deductible. Coverage upto 6 yrs 100,000 miles

Also Geico is not transferable if you were to sell vehicle.Fidelity you can transfer to new owner a good selling point

Why is the GEICO warranty not a good idea if you also have GEICO auto insurance?

This seams like a good deal, I will try to read to actual coverage this week. I drive about 35K per year, this means I could be covered up to 100K for about $200, vs over $1000 for a after market contract. I already have Geico

I checked with Geico, there is very little detail on the actual coverage. They are sending me a brochure. This maybe good if you put on a lot of miles. You have to add the coverage before you have 15k on the car. I would start paying an additional $83 every six months now. So you pay now even though it is covered under the warranty. I drive about 35-40 K a year so it still may be a good deal depending on how the coverage is stated. Al little under %500 to cover me up to 100K. MAy not be good for those with lower annaul mileage.

In general you want an exclusionary policy, meaning it covers everything except the following..... A policy that states what is covered is not as comprehensive

To replace the turbo on a 2007 S at 55,000 miles ended up costing me $4,000. Since I'm keeping the countryman that's currently cruising I intend to get the extended protection. I am looking for options to Mini.

Warranty vs. Maintenance?

One of the sales people tried to explain to me the difference between what is covered by warranty vs. maintenance. As an example, he talked about replacing brakes, talking about someone who drives aggressively.

Replacing the brakes wouldn't be covered under warranty, but they would be covered if a buyer had the maintenance package.

Does this make sense to folks?

Thanks!

The extended maintenance plan covers everything the 3yr 36k mile one covers, wiper blades, brakes, oil changes according to the computer, etc. Now if you were to say need brakes every 8k miles then they might raise a stink, but it should be covered regardless of how you drive up to the 36k and up to 100k if you buy the extended maintenance plan.

That is all separate from the warranty 4yr or 50k miles, then can be extended up to 7yr 100k miles in total. The warranty covers all of the defects or parts that break and shouldn't.

Sure wish that applied to tires as well. Seems strange about the brakes since tires wear as well.
