Turbo Kick-In
Well I've waited, looked, lurked, and searched, but to no avail. So now I have to ask what will become the NAM's weirdest question this decade! I'll start by throwing out the specs: First the car '14 fJCW R55 auto w/paddles Now for me '59 fMALE no warranty left I've heard guys and gals talk about hearing the turbo kick-in, start up, whine, etc. But for the life of me, I can't hear any difference from the engine or exhaust while driving. I'll be doing 35mph and kick it while going thru the gears, pushing close to redline at each shift and it all sounds the same. I'll start out slow and keep the tach around or below 2000 to 2500. Then I'll steady push thru 4000 and then let it rip. So help an old man with questionable ears to hear what it is that some people talk about sounding like sweet sex on a summer night! Well, maybe not exactly that, but close they say. I also have never heard my exhaust pop n gurgle like others also talk about. It's not like I have/need to have these, but would like to know they are there some where. Oh, I have just over 10,000 miles. Have driven with and without the sport mode. Don't get me wrong here....I love every minute of driving this car. And wouldn't change a thing. Just this question had been lurking here behind the scenes with me now for some time. I thought it was time to put it out there. Thanks in Advance

I finally heard my turbo spool the other day.
I've a 2013 R56 auto w/paddles.
1.) Sunroof is open or windows down
2.) Rolling start in 2 gear below 1500 rpm and floor it
I can hear it every time doing this. Sounds like a whine/hiss. I finally heard it because I normally never have the sunroof or windows open.
Only happens for me when I do as described.
Here's a video, it's around the 11 second mark.
