BH's Midnight Black & Chilli Red FJCW Hatch

Thought it is a good as time as any to start a new thread.

After much discussion and thought over a new MINI we finally both agreed and went into our local MINI dealer, Cooper Teesside and paid the deposit on a new FJCW hatch.

Over the weekend we had been through which MINI she wanted. Initially it was a new MCS convertable, then a new MCS with panny roof (both great cars may I add), but she kept coming back to a FJCW.

Looked at all the models and the hatch suited us best as I'm keeping my Audi.

We were very happy with the deal. Worked out a discount, so we didn't feel too robbed! lol

The colour & spec is what the good lady has wanted since she first saw them come out!

Spec as follows -

R56 MINI John Cooper Works hatch

Couple of options that we gave some serious thoughts too -

Media pack - couldn't justify the expense for what use we would get
Visual boost radio - don't really need it. Besides the owner likes the black rev counter & speedo
HK stereo - we hardly have the radio on in the car, so not worth it for us

As someone said on tM, you've got to get what works for you!

Delivery should be 1st week in September!

I have asked the dealer not to touch the car when it comes off the trailer from the factory. No prep work whatsoever.

The day we collect it, I'm taking it to a Tyre shop to have the run-flats removed and a set of Hankook V12's fitted. Why MINI 'saddle' their JCW with these tyres is beyond me!"

The MINI has been booked in with a Pro Detailer to do a 'new car detail' the day after we collect it. I've agreed with him that I want the CarPro C.Quartz products to be used.

Plenty of photo's when collected!

The wait begins ...

Chili pack in the Uk consists of -

- Clth/Lea Ray Carbon Black, interior trim
- Automatic Air Conditioning
- Extended Interior Light Package
- Floor mats, velour
- Multi-function controls for s'wheel
- On-Board Computer
- Pass. seat height adjustment
- Rain sensor with auto. headlight activation
- Storage Compartment Pack
- White Indicator Lenses
- Xenon Headlights

Cost Uk£ 1750.00 for the JCW

Upholstery options are cheaper after spec'ing the chili pack
For example -
Leather Lounge Championship Black/Red interior is normally Uk£ 1235.00 but with chili pack it becomes Uk£ 775.00

In the Uk, you DO NOT buy any MINI without a Chili pack unless you want to kill the trade in price!

When I picked the good lady up from work, I chanced it and drove to the Dealers compound where the new cars are stored. It is actually on the way home, I kid you not!

Anyway, low and behold we could see the MINI. Anyways, we managed to obtain a 'short pass' to the compound and had a look round the car! Ohhhh very nice indeedy! All the options appear to be fitted as ordered.

No pics of interior as glass to reflective!

Couple or 3 of pics

Sweet!! I have the same car (with different seats, no stripes, and I have driving lights) and it looks great. I have never seen another one and IMO it is really stunning and unique with the red roof and mirrors. So glad I got a JCW and went with this special color combo. Enjoy!!!

Dried off with some new ultra plush MF towels
Still bits and pieces of grease etc on the bodywork and it is in need of a full decontamination. I also noticed a couple of marks on the bonnet and a bit of hologramming on the bonnet and FOS door.
It was quit obvious the dealer hadn't cleaned the car, but there was enough minor defects in the paint that would have annoyed me had the car not being going to a Pro-Detailer. Could be me being a bit **** mind ...

After we had gone out for a drive last night we were both a bit concerned about some vibration / droning noise we were getting when driving. As much as I could I couldn't fathom it out.

Went to the Dealer this morning. As I got out of the car Becky was already coming out of the Showroom to greet me. I explained our concerns and she got the Service Manager straight out and I took him for a short drive, so he could hear it, which he did.

He said he would put it straight up on the ramps and get a mechanic to look at it straight away while Becky made me a cup of tea.

Before I had finished my tea the Service Manager was back out having resolved the problem. The heat shield on the exhaust at the engine was slightly touching the exhaust, so they were able to bend it out of the way. Problem solved! Panic averted! Great service!

Thanks for looking!

After having driven the MINI and spoken with Greig, we are leaving the run flats on for the time being. They're not as bad as we remember TBH :tl:

Anyway, off to the Detailers at 6pm tonight!

Thanks for your comments!

Snow foam help to break down dirt on the car and gently lift it off before you touch with a wash mitt, therefore helping to prevent swirl marks. Best used thro' a snow foam lance. Think of it more as a pre-wash.

Now I've got all the photo's together, time to do the write up!

I chickened out and got a Pro-Detailer to do our new MINI John Cooper Works as I suspected, even though the Dealer didn't touch the car, that it would need a machine polish.

I'm not up to speed on machine polishing and thought a brand new car wasn't the best way to start!

So 'new car protection detail' duly booked.

We took the MINI up to Shaun the Detailer. He initially did a paint inspection with a paint depth gauge and a sun gun. The paint readings were all fairly consistent but the sun gun showed up more marring, holograming and marks than I had seen.

Photo's courtesy of Shaun – cheers mate!

I'll let the pictures do the talking!

Very nice, great options too.
Do you find the lack of a thick boarder around the tailpipes frustrating also?

My fJcw has the option sports suspension and it doesn't look as high as yours. Does the sport suspension lower it?

Neither the base nor sport suspensions lower the car, only the JCW suspension does.

Jcw

That's a bad *** JCW, I'm thinking about importing a right hand drive one so I can have both right and left hand drive JCW's.
