That's what I'm confused about. My 2012 doesn't have a n18 engine to begin with so how am I having the noise

Oops, you're right. '12 JCW has the N14, so the service bulletin isn't even applicable.

Keep an eye on those oil levels, and if it gets any worse I'd be sure to get that timing chain checked out right away.

Yup, mine sounds exactly like that. It goes away within a minute, and certainly before the engine gets fully warm.

It used to bug me, but the car runs great, and my oil hasn't had any issues, so I just got over it. Funny, 911 engines sometimes sound like a hundred bolts being shaken around in a can during startup. Not harmonic at all.

Yea the noise does go away. I guess I'll leave it be for now. Like you said if something's wrong it will break and I have 50k warranty so no need to stress over it.

Mine does this too. That's the diesel-y knocking sound I was trying to briefly describe above. My 1st gen had a similar sound as well when cold. Nothing to worry about, I don't think.

Here's one more video that you can really hear the squeak it makes.

so turns out the noise about (the squeak) is a bad waterpump. it's being replaced. as for the other noise, they still claim its "normal"...
