reduced power while driving

been through the search mode with "no results". Has anyone had a situation where an intermittent problem of reduced power occurs but only lasts for a day or two then disappears all by itself, only to reappear a day or two later.
taking to the dealer provided no solution and no codes were detected/displayed. it's an '09 factory JCW with 117k and no other problems.
this is a friends car in northern VA and DC are.
ALSO my 09 factory JCW, with 33k miles is showing signs of premature clutch wear. I don't think it's my driving as I have two other cars with manual g/b which show no wear.
I know this thread addresses two different issues, but need advice for both as my friend is not yet a member.

Is the 'half power' icon displayed on the tachometer when the loss of power is experienced? The R56 is prone to this for all sorts of possible causes, which if not serious and intermittent will clear themselves after a few engine start/stop cycles. Personally I had a bad O2 sensor wreak this havoc on me for a few months until I had it replaced. Now I'm chasing a P2885 which is resulting in the 'half power' icon and no boost.

Your problem could be in a multitude of locations. Sadly without any ECU codes, troubleshooting is without direction. If you have a method of data logging (I have the Bavarian Technic kit), start following some values and see what your car is doing.

So this "half power" icon; that MUST be the icon that shows one side of the motor blacked out, yes?
I just got that today, on my '09 JCW with 54,000 miles.

Next time you have your JCW in the shop have them check the cam chain, mine was loose and caused spotty drop outs on heavy acceleration. i.e. uphill on-ramp to the freeway.

My problem has gotten a little strange. That light was coming on for several days, and the car would barely run. Then suddenly, the light went out and hasn't come back.
But now, every morning when I first start up, it will not idle. It'll die unless I keep the revs up for about ten seconds or so, and then it's good for the entire day.
It'll start up and idle fine, run normally, even after sitting for 4-5 hours. But the next morning, same thing; no idle, spits and pops, until I've kept it alive for about ten seconds.

Before I make an appointment with the dealer, does anyone have any ideas?

As for premature clutch wear - Totally possible. When I bought my car the clutch was FRIED. I'm talking discoloring the flywheel fried. Made the dealership replace it because I wasn't about to stand for that. They also tried to blame me for 'ruining' it.

As for the reduced power - it can be a multitude of things. The only reason it would be happening would be something ECU related that's purposefully cutting power. If there's nothing showing on the tach and it's still slow, there's most certainly a bigger problem.
