Got my 09 jcw 3 weeks ago. Everything was fine the first week. Enjoying the car and just happy to be part of the mini family. Then suddenly the transmission makes a slight grinding noise. Only happens from 1st to 2nd and only during quick shifts. Took it into the dealer and they found metal shavings in the gearbox. Car is still under warrenty so no cost to me .

Anyone else have this problem? Highly considering getting extended warranty now.....

 

Probably abused by previous owner. People on NAM seem to have more clutch issues but not manual transmission problems.

Mileage is irrelevant. If the previous owner abused the gearbox there is going to be damage.

 

Hmm.. I have 1700 miles on my 11' and it sometimes grinds 2nd slightly when cold, I have never abused the car.

hmm..I would bring it in if I were you. You have plenty of time left for warranty.


Got the new transmission and the car feels great! No more grinding and it really clicks into each gear. Thanks to the previous owner for giving me a new transmission. I just hope the clutch is ok.
