Timing chain rattle

Hi All.
I have 2009 JCW with 9,500 miles on it. On start up this morning I herd or thought I heard the dreaded timing chain rattle. Is this possible ?Does anyone know if they made any efforts to correct this in 09 models?
Thanks
Jerry

Unfortunately, the '09 models are just as susceptible to the timing chain rattle as earlier models.

First thing to do is confirm that you've got a timing chain rattle. This video is probably one of the better ones demonstrating it, although your engine might not exhibit it at the same engine speed as his engine did (2,000 RPM).

Next: check your oil level. And continue to check it frequently. Some of these cars are known oil-eaters, and if the oil level drops too low, even a perfectly-functional tensioner will not properly tension the timing chain, and it will rattle. In this case, topping off the oil should rectify the problem.

Good luck!

Take it right to your Mini Dealer - they should fix it quickly.
