Big question to me is, with a tune, what effect would a deleted resonator have on the car? A proper catless downpipe makes a big difference in performance yet removing the resonator kills it. Strange!
The evolve Cooper S was mapped when tested.

After adding an akrapovic downpipe, I will be putting back the resonator. My car was loud that my neighbors were giving me the stinky eye when backed it out of my garage for a test drive after the install.

When used with the factory DP, the sound was perfect!!!!

Reviving an old thread here... I love the sound of the exhausts with the resonator delete mod but definitely don't want to induce drone. What about swapping the resonator for a shorter one to get a little more growl but not the extent of having no resonator?

I too would like to know if there is anything else that would work in the place of the factory resonator?

I know a few posts back, there was talk of the delete causing some back pressure loss. I feel like my jcw some times feels like it might lose a little low end torque on heavy acceleration. During which the exhaust sounds under strain.

I've been thinking about putting my resonator back in... but I do love that sound...

decisions decisions...

It would make absolutely no sense if you lost torque from removing the resonator. It's likely in your head. Turbo's love free flowing exhaust.

Thanks for your reply Create, I may be misreading this, but sounds like there maybe dyno results showing some power loss

I'd like to know what mods if any were involved in this Evolve dyno run. Ie. a tune, etc. there may be more that explains the HP loss.

Yeah I saw that too. But still makes absolutely zero sense on a turbo car. Wonder if there was a boost leak or something else going on for those dyno runs.

Plus, a resonator shouldn't restrict it that much anyways. The cat is the big restriction.

After living with my JCW exhaust sans resonator for several months now. I've decided to post a few daily driver observations:
1. POP AND BURBLE: Lot's more pop and burble (PNB). In sport mode the PNB is almost over the top. Let me state, for the record, I LOVE PNB. I'm almost surprised to hear my self say it, but with my car in sport mode the PNB is a bit excessive. My opinion. Prior to my resonator delete, the PNB with sport OFF was very mild/almost imperceptible. Now, sans resonator the PNB with sport OFF is PERFECT. To recap: sport on, PNB is excessive; sport off, PNB just right.

2. Growl: With the resonator gone, I appreciate an excellent low growl in from the system. This is perfect. This growling tone is best enjoyed motoring around town and normal speeds and cruising city streets at speeds of 25-55mph (as legally posted).

3. Hard Acceleration: Without the resonator this system sounds completely different under hard acceleration. This is good and bad. The good is more growl and more decibels. The bad is some of those decibels are in cabin drone. Also bad is the noticeable BARK I get on decel when shifting under hard acceleration. Let me explain more. It goes kind of like this: 1st gear hammer down, let of the gas for the change up to 2nd and you are immediately presented with this loud BRRRAAAAPPP! from the exhaust. I personally don't care for this, it sounds just the tiniest bit ricey. Overall it sounds much more like I would expect a more track prepped MINI to sound.

4. DRONE: It definitely drones. I'd say it drones bad. That said, the drone is directly correlated to speed and throttle. The further you push the car past 65mph the worse the drone gets. In Cali its not uncommon for traffic to move at a 75 to 80mph pace. It's pretty loud in my car at those speeds and I have to turn my stereo up quite a bit louder to enjoy my music now. You can also expect an increase in the drone anytime you press the little pedal on the right during a passing maneuver.

If I made frequent long trips in the car, I'd definitely have my resonator re-installed. The highway drone is definitely killing my buzz. In town driving I'm pretty happy with it overall. I may see if I can find a more performance oriented/smaller resonator to strike a better balance.
Did it give you more power? I had a 911 and removed the cat and lost low end power but gained high end. Don't care what it sounds like just care about performace.

Has anyone considered getting serious and just installing a pair of cutouts on this thing?

Maybe have them shoot out just in front of the rear wheels. A nice little button inside to control mild to wild?

Did that one on a MGB way back when. It was so worth it to see the
look on the cop's face when he asked me to start it up and it was dead
quiet!

Well I had it completed yesterday, and the volume difference is very noticeable. I am 50 years old, and since I got my FJCW MINI, I have been driving like a teenager again I am not used to having people turn and stare at my car when I go by, but it is happening especially since the resonator has been removed. Had a WRX pull up and park next to me as I was getting ready to leave an underground car park. He was just getting out of his car when I started mine (sport button engaged). His jaw dropped, and he watched me drive all the way out of the car park. I bet he spent hundreds, if not thousands on his exhaust mods. and I only spent $50 AU!!

Cheers,

Ken

Here is a link for a short video of my Exhaust Note since it has been removed, along with some pictures of the process.

Cheers,

Ken

I'll also chime in with my results. After much research, I've decided not to mess with the stock JCW exhaust. I didn't want to go cat less and from what I've researched, a catted back or cat back doesn't give me much bang for my buck. So I've decided to put he money elsewhere (intercooler and tune) . Anywho, part of the exhaust is the coveted rumble, which I still wanted. So after all this resonator talk, I decided to try it. I wasn't expecting much. So today, after 15 minutes and $50, I cranked it up. And to quote my 7 year old "OMG". Unbelievable difference. Deeper tones, gurgle, pops and crackle. I couldn't believe it. There's not gonna be a lot of radio in the car for the next few weeks. Thanks again for the info on this thread guys.
