Windshield Washer Fluid Staining Stripes

Hi All,

Just wondering if anyone else is having the issue that I have. When I use the windshield washers on my MINI, they seem to "leak" or run back on to the hood and eventually over my bonnet stripes. It's not as big an issue with the hood because of the wax but the bonnet stripes get this horrible purplish/iridescent streaks.

I took it to my MINI dealer who confirmed the problem, replaced the nozzles and my bonnet stripes, however on the way home... it did the same thing again.

I will go back to my dealer but I want to know if this is a problem with other MINIS, if it is, I might make a decision to switch to Sports stripes or something.

Thanks in advance.

1. don't use the washers

2. change the fluid to something less hostile . . . like water and vinegar 50/50

owned MINI since 2002 .... never had this problem so serious as to need help . . .

get Aquapel and throw away the wipers.

I have stains too. What are you going to do? I think it's just cheap vinyl.

A good wax job will help with that.
+1 on the vinegar and water

My 2010 did the same thing until I replaced the Mini oem one-way "T" fitting with a simple plastic "T" (less than a $1 at Ace). The Mini valve ("T") is located on the underneath side of the hood in the center about 5" from the trailing edge of the hood. On my car the Mini valve was black plastic with a red button on the side. Apparently the Mini valve is designed to prevent the washer fluid from draining back into the tank after you use the washers. High underhood temperatures sometimes cause the fluid remaining in the lines to expand and weep back out thru the washer nozzles and stain your hood. I don't guarantee success but it will only take 5 minutes and a $1 part to give it a try. Good luck.

@ammodave, I will try that for sure!!!!

Just an update... I had it repaired and the bonnet stripes under warranty from MINI but it happened again. My dealer rocks, they called back and asked what would make me happy. I decided to switch to Sport Stripes so that if they leak (hopefully not after AMMODAVE's suggestion) they won't leak on the stripes. They offered to pay for the stripes if I paid for labor, not a bad deal and I thought it very nice of them.

Thanks for everyone' input.

I also had the leaky washer fluid but only from the driver left nossel. After requesting it get checked at my last service appt, they replaced the nossel but now both nossels weap after a good 30min of driving.

It looks like my MINI cries when its not being driven. (:-)
But seriously, if the "T part" works can you say where you got it?

Why hasnt Mini figured this out, i wonder?
