Are there shift ligths on top of the tach. I saw a vid of them workig on a car. My steerign wheel total blocks my view of them in any position so I am not sure if they work or night. Only driven the car once at night and did not notice anything. There is red plastic on the top of the tach and looks like light could be there.

 

I too have been wondering what the red lense is on top of the tach. It has not come on yet for anything, so I'm not sure what it is... Anyone know?

Would be cool if it was a shift light, but I am sure my MA would have said something when I picked up my mini when new...

 

I'm pretty sure it wasn't designed as a shift light since MINI sells their own JCW shift light as an accessory. I always thought it would blink when the hazard lights were on but after testing it I see I was wrong.

I wonder if there's a LED under there and, if so, how difficult it would be to convert it into a DIY shift light.

 

That red light is part of the factory alarm. It blinks when armed.

 

It's the alarm indicator light if you have an alarm installed on your mini or not, but it will only flash if you have an alarm.
