you know those little trackers that the make for pregnant women that shows the different stages of the fetus based on the number of weeks passed?

they need to make one of those for Minis....or at least for people that order Minis.

I'd post it if they made one for me.

Mini rarely wheels and deals...now is a good time to get in, especially with lower APRs out there on loans. These are the primary reasons I ordered a brand new car when I said I never would!
The rebate will be retroactive for cars purchased after the end of last year, so don't wait to take delivery.

roger that....

I get back in June or July and it will be waiting on me when I return. It runs through the end of the 2009 calender year, so I should be good even if we get extended.

thanks!

So would it benefit someone who is deployed to buy a Mini from Military Sales (saving around $2000) then get another tax rebate for $1500?
I would see a problem with this because the dealers arent American... It would be nice to save about $3000 off a JCW.

I am currently deployed. I took the military bonus they offer over here (i.e. Dubai, Qatar, Germany, and so on...) and called Mini dealers in the States. They offered to match whatever deal the guys across the pond here made. It's a simple case of being patient, playing with numbers and not in a bad way, playing dealers off of each other. Jackie Cooper Mini knows I am happy and returned customer. They'd rather not lose my business and my big mouth telling everyone how happy I am with them, so they stepped up and kept my business. With the $2,000 off the price, plus the possibility of the rebate (which on a $31,000 car would be appx. ~$2,000) it came to about 10% off. Given that a car usually loses up to 30% as soon as you drive it off the lot, this helps cut into that initial loss.

If you are stationed in Germany, the UK, Italy or somewhere in Europe, you can get the $2,000 all the time but not the rebate. But that is not all of it. Being that you are not having the car delivered across the pond, you don't pay the $650 shipping fee from the UK to the States. So that is about $2,500 less than you pay if you're stationed OCONUS.

I neglected to mention something. If I am reading the stimulus package correctly, it would not matter where the car was bought or built, it is when you register the vehicle to pay the tax on it. As long as you register it in the States, it should not be a problem. When you file your 2009 taxes, you turn in proof that you bought a new car, titled/registered it and paid tax. Then I believe that you can use it as a deduction or something. That part I am a little grey on.

looks like if it passes we can deduct the interest on the loan and the sales tax paid when we file for 2009

It is done........
Found one on the boat unspoken for. DS - JCW Aero Kit - and more - about a month out. Just enough time for me to get all the mods pulled off the MCS.

Let the countdown begin!!!.....and the wait......

Go to the Wallenius Wilhelmsen site, plug your VIN in the cargo tracking field, and your car should come up. Make note of the vessel it is on, then go to sailwx.info and plug in the vessel name. You'll get a map of where the vessel is on the Atlantic Ocean, like this one, the Faust on its way to Halifax with my MCS onboard :

My newborn will be offloaded at the Halifax port, and then be jam-packed onto a train for the long journey across many provinces to Alberta. But I'll be watching it, courtesy of the tracking feature on the CN Rail site...

I had problems at first as well... I was plugging the VIN into the wrong field - it should go in the far right field. I was plugging it into the middle field and no results were found. Then I tried the far right field (cargo ID, or something to that effect) and... Bingo! there it was!
Depending on where you are on the Continent, they used to also use K-Line, not sure if that is still the case.

Here's a primer on how to track your MINI:

How to Track Your MINI

On the WW site, you type the VIN into the cargo ID box.
If your car is on the K-Line, your MA will need to tell you the name of the vessel so you can track it.

Also, another site for tracking a vessel once it's on this side of the ocean: http://marinetraffic.com/ais/

We ordered ours on 10/24/08 and picked it up at the dealer on 11/24/08. It arrived at the dealer three days before we picked it up. That's fast. Our 02 took three months from order to pick up and our 04 took about two and a half months.
