People can hate away on the time needed to get this 100%. After the UniChip we endorsed turned out to be such a turd quality wise, we are making this ALTA Product to be beyond perfect before its release.
Thanks again folks!
Totally makes sense - I worked in R&D for 3 years - it takes time to work out all the bugs in a new system. Look forward to seeing the finished result
The JCW and Cooper S ECU Upgrade Hand Held Tool, will come out as soon as possible. It will be a small hand held unit that is shipped to client (they get to keep it) and it contains maps tuned to the specific mods, fuel and altitude of your car. The client then simply connects it to the OBDII data port on the car, follows some simple prompts on the screen menus and viola!
You will also be able to change the mapping at any time and those new maps will simply be e-mailled to you and loaded onto the Tuner via PC or Mac. Then simply plug the tuner back into the car and choose the new map. You can also change the car back to stock at anytime including prior to any service work at the dealer. Very slick stuff!
Great sounding device.
This question is based on acquaintance with some older ECUs ... but I've come to undertand there can be a limit to how many times an ECU can be re-flashed. Wondering, are there any concern of that with the ECU our cars are using? or is it such a high number it's unlikely to ever be reached by anyone?
Also, you mention it can be brought back to stock prior to service. Is there really no evidence that it was re-flashed? Such as a date the ECU was reset or some other signature?
Finally, if I lie and say I live @ 5000ft but really live at sea level, will I get a super duper boosted head-gasket-blowing tune from ya?

Most likely the storage medium (likely an EEPROM or Flash memory) begins failing to write cells at around a minimum of 100,000 writes per cell. So it's not likely the limit will be reached.

I'm just speculating here, but they probably dump the entire contents of the memory they're going to change. Therefore, they can just replace anything they've changed with what was there previously.

Thanx much,

jeremyjcw got your other questions answered, but on this one, the honesty of the client is crucial. We already do this on the other side of our company www.perrinperformance.com on the tuning options we offer to the Subaru and Mitsubishi EVO community. Each person buying the tune is interviewed by a member of our mapping staff and they go over the aspects of the car, the elevation, fuel choices etc. We would NEVER send out a map that is likely to cause a problem.
What a tease! Reminds me of some girls I use to know. Can't wait to get my stubby fat hands on this little number. It's pretty bad when I check this site everyday to see if there is a date for the release.
