Thanks, not released for US market sales yet. They tend to stock Germany and UK first. US has to wait as all the regulations on aftersales.

Cant wait to see installed.

Please more details, Mizme!! Let us know how the install goes, etc. You got it from a Mini dealer? I have 3 weeks left in Germany, and our F56S is already on the boat heading to the States.

Interesting, obviously an EU product, but that doesn't even look remotely like the same font / style / look as the HUD here in the states. Maybe all of our HUDs will look like that in a future SW upgrade?

---I see the link nevermind.

I didn't see anything in the instructions about required equipment. Is there anything where you purchased this or on the box?

How is your car equipped?

"The retrofit system does not require programming/coding." That's incredible.

Biggest regret I have of my F55 build was not getting the HUD.

Fingers crossed it's an easy install
What tools are required?

I have it factory installed...though mine doesn't show anything that the HUD shown above is displaying! Well, when using the nav, it will display the next turn and stuff, and when making or receiving calls, it will show the name/number...but it looks very different than that.

Mini Head Up Screen Retrofit

No disrespect or wanting to diminish your enjoyment, but this looks nothing like the factory HUD, nor is it even integrated into the dash.

Not so much a retrofit, as an add-on accessory, if you ask me. I'm surprised it's even MINI-branded.

Aside from what's displayed on the screen looking different than the factory installed unit, he just set the unit on the dash to show how it's working. I'm pretty sure that's not how it's meant to sit on the dash - he will have to cut out the dash (or get a replacement dash with the cutout for the HUD) to fit the unit in. Also, it looks to be different than the factory unit, as the screen on his just tilts down to the unit when the car is off, whereas mine (and factory installed units) drops down into the dash, and a flap closes over it when it's off.

This is how it looks in my car:

"Retrofit" is a bit of a misnomer here.
This IS meant to just sit on the dash as shown in his pictures. That is the final install. There is no cutting into the dash or replacing the dash top cover, which would be incredibly expensive. It is meant to be an OEM (therefore covered by limited warranty) accessory to add this feature if you didn't initially order the vehicle with it or if you have an older model.

While it is a bit more crude and the fonts/displays are not the same, it is at least an option for those who wanted or wished they had ordered Head-Up display.

And no, the factory installed HUD will not change to this type of display with an update.

Does it sit flush with the dash or does it wobble/ move around under heavy turning?

It looks like you might have to screw one of those brackets into the dash, then the HUD unit clips into the bracket. Hard to tell, really.

I honestly think this is great. Give lots of feedback and I'm sure there is a way to make it integrate better. After all it is not like the HUD in the F56 looks like it's a well thought out extra. I was frankly shocked how it looks when I first saw it. The dash looks way better without is IMO. I had it in my MCS and have ordered it in my JCW - Handy but ugly.
SO.....IMHO a trained circus monkey could probably make the "accessory" HUD look as good or even better than the one you order with the car.

I always thought a HUD was to be displayed (projected) on the windshield.

It's the most seamless that way, but it also requires a special windshield that has a layer that the image can display onto. These are very expensive to replace. One reason I'm happy that MINI chose to have a panel pop out of the dash instead. It doesn't have the image flexibility that the BMWs have, but if a rock chips my windshield and I need to have it replaced, it'll be less than half the cost!

Looks like the worlds first digital ashtray sitting on the dash. Blends in about as well as a monkey humpin' a football.

I'd still probably give one a shot depending on price and degree of difficulty installing it.
