2015 Build Week 05 Thread

2015 Build Week 06

Because build week threads are a huge heat sink on customer anxiety that saves room on the forum for everything else. Ha!

Who's in?

I am!

Well-Equipped MCS underway

Update: This is actually Build Week 06 (first week of Feb) as Siriuszero pointed out. I can't change the title... but we'll just roll with it...

I'm right there with you. First post but long time lurker. Checked my vin and my production date was yesterday. I'm in Canada so I don't have the luxury of mini owners club updates.

I'm technically week 6 (production date of 2/3), but I'm jumping on anyway!

My VIN went active Tuesday and I can now pull up the spec sheet from the BMW decoder website:
http://www.bmwarchive.org/vin/bmw-vin-decoder.html

My MA tells me there is a ship that has been waiting in Southampton for a couple weeks to fill up, so hopefully I'll be one of the last cars on and one of the first cars off when it hits California. Crossing fingers for 1st or 2nd week of March!

This is the second MINI I've ordered, but the waiting does not get any easier...

PS siriuszero, see the footer I have there, with my previous Clubman int he foreground, and an orange Element in the background? That was my Element also, named wrongTank, and it was heavily Tachikoma influenced, complete with an excellent custom vinyl TK in the window that I had made and since have been unable to replicate.

I now have a vinyl printer/cutter so I'm planning on making another version. I know your TK was the retiring MINI, but I'll let you know what I come up with all the same.

Sweet! I loved that show and the blue of my CM with the white roof just screamed Tachikoma!

Still thinking up a name for my new one...

Sweet! I sent a mod request to change the thread name...

So we are out of the body shop as of today, scheduled for completion on the 7th...

Let's keep that freighter docked!
You have an even longer wait than I do... I'm in SF area, so they drop off at Port Hunueme (sp) and then truck up from the distro center. Yours has to make it's way to WA... I assume you have a local center for receipt there...?

Hey, thanks for giving me the heads up on this thread thirdraildesignlab. My newest scheduled for completion date via the 1-800 # as of today is February 9th so we are pretty close on the dates. My port will be Brunswick, GA (SSIPOA).

Hopefully we'll both catch the ship in port now with a departure soon after!

Mine will come into the VDC at Port Hueneme, same as yours, then up to Seattle MINI. When I ordered my Countryman, it took about 2-3 days at port then another 3 days to Seattle. Dealer took about 1-2 days to PDC it before delivery

OH HELLS NO. Actually I'm not going to disparage that dealership. They never did me wrong. I just didn't feel particularly taken care of either. My first was Mini of Mountain View, long drive but great salesperson, then all service at SF. Second was MINI of SF, and again, all initial service done there. It's just a big shop so service is like this conveyor belt of MINIs. Plus no loaners except for long jobs so I would drop the car off, then ride cross-county to work, etc. The issue really was not getting timely updates about service status s it made planning more difficult logistically.

When I learned Penske was putting in a MINI dealership in my neck of the woods (I live in Marin now, SF prior) I was stoked. When they opened I was there the first day and the whole team was great. The service department is 5-star. Loaners for anything, super accommodating. No BS about service work (granted I had no complaints either)... so I bought the third MINI from them, and now, the fourth.

I have nothing against MINI of SF, but I LOVE MINI of Marin. That goes a long way...

Same completion date and port as mine. I'm scheduled complete Feb 9th and then from port in GA to OKC... Mine is a fully loaded pepper white justa... Can't wait!

I live in Marin as well but I bought my car from Mini of Concord, good to know that the service at Marin is good.

Mine too!

Looks like the Faust is arriving to Brunswick, GA on the 24th.

Next after that (I think) is the Manon, which is set to depart on the 11th with arrival to Port Hueneme on March 4th. Sounds like that's my ship!

One year everyone was getting all hopped up and then the MINIs sat on the lot in Southampton because of some scheduling issue with the ship. It was like torture for them.

Not as much torture as first timers watching the ship's GPS signal wink out after leaving the bay...

BTW, I totally misunderstood this - the CARS have been waiting for a ship to come, the ship has not yet arrived. Once the ship comes, it takes less than a day to load them all.

Here's a neat little mini-documentary on the Faust itself:

Pretty need video. But still makes me want to double check for scratches due to transport. They are pretty tightly packed! ..... Now as long as the ship doesn't run aground....

Seems like they run a pretty tight ship (pun intended), so I'm sure they are properly secured best they can be for a trans-Atlantic voyage, but sometimes shipping damage can occur and stuff like that is fixed at the VDC when it comes in for inspection.

There's a great post in 1st Gear of a tour of the Port Hueneme VDC and they actually talk about shipping damage that can occur. They can re-paint, replace parts, do whatever they need to to bring the car back up to factory spec, if needed.

Yeah that's a part of the blessing and curse of the VDC. You're car is stuck for a few days there while you wring your hands... but they may just be inspecting it, OR they may be doing cosmetic repairs...

As long as everything looks like it should and works like it should at delivery, I'd rather not know either way

Agreed. I'd be looking for the replacement or repainted part for the rest of my days

I actually discovered that my MINI was repainted on the drivers door, probably at the VDC.

I was looking for a good detailer and one guy wanted to show off all his toys, including a meter that can measure how thick your paint is. One 2' x 3' spot on my door seemed to be twice as thick as any other part of the car. I can only assume something gauged it and it was repainted.
