Roof railing retrofit?

Has anybody retrofitted roof rails on their own? If so, how difficult was it?

I haven't done it, but I'm going to tease your imagination... It will involve lowering the headliner and drilling holes in the roof. And, don't get those holes in the wrong spot, or you'll probably have roof leaks.

I did some research into this and the cost & process alone isn't worth it. I assume you want to get a roof rack? You'll be better off finding a Q128 roof rack setup (max weight of 100 lbs vs. 165 w/ roof rails + official roof rack) or getting a trailer hitch installed

Check craigslist for Yakima/Thule clip sellers, found one here in Minneapolis that has the Q128 clips and bought the entire setup (bars, pads, fairing, clips) for $300

Yeah, that sounds scary to me.
