F56 Rear Calipers

Hey guys, need some help please.

So our daughter drives a 2018 Mini/R56 with about 29,000 miles on it currently. She purchased it last year from the original owner, clean carfax, warranty and service history, etc. etc.

October 2021, I replaced the rear discs and the pads because the inside pads were worn down to the metal and the outside pads weren't very worn at all.

So she brings it by this evening and drops it off as she said she's getting the following message on her screen "Brake System: Replace brake pads. Consult service center."

So I pulled of both rear tires and it's the same exact problem as before... the inside pads are almost gone and the outside pads look almost new... on both sides.

At this point I'm thinking calipers, but what are the odds of both of them being bad?

Any thoughts on what I could have done wrong?

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Mike

Slider pins need to be lubricated. Since the brake piston is on the inside, the caliper relies on the slider pins to pull the outside pad into the rotor. If the pins don't move freely, the caliper won't pull the outer pad.

Use Sil-Glyde grease -

Thanks, I'll see what I can find on the slide pins. Makes complete sense, I know I didn't grease them.

Along with the caliper lube, your daughter drags the brakes.
When one lightly touches the brakes, lets say a block before the light, the inside pad will touch the rotor, but not enough force to pull the caliper along with the outside pad.

Also check the parking brake, and verify it not too tight.
