F55/F56 Battery Type
Was interested for trickle charger setting. I surmised it was AGM, although my Mini dealer whom I called (service and parts) could not tell me. Amazing! I called BMW wanting to confirm battery type in my 2017 M240i and Svc Mgr immediately knew it was an AGM.
Amazing, considering BMW/MINI have only used AGM since 2014, if Im correct.
I was shocked also that no one at Mini knew what batteries come in the cars they sell and service. Starting to put trickle chargers on both cars now. Only kept a Ctek charger on the BMW as I don't drive that car much. I let the Mini sit for a bit over two weeks and got a "low battery" message when I started the car. These newer cars certainly draw a lot of power just sitting. Now, both cars get put on chargers when I pull into the garage. Thought it better to keep them topped off rather than let them discharge over time as that will shorten their service life.
2019, mcs.... I also got the "low battery, drive more or plug it in" yesterday when stopping the car, but that was with after it mostly sitting outside for 2 weeks in very cold temps (-12 to -20C). So honestly I'm not surprised. It did at least fortunately start with out an issue. And never got the message on startup.
Now I have to try the R50, and see how the replacement battery from the spring does.... Its been sitting just as long.
Although, it was a great reminder to recharge the battery booster pack.

Most if not all of the 3rd gen F body MINI's all use AGM. Some of the 2nd gen R body used AGM but most were flooded. If the car is newer than a 2012 then BMW's Air program will they the parts or service department what size and type battery was installed when they car was made.
