New battery.. no infotainment/other issues

Tried to use the search function and couldn't find what I was looking for.

Long story short.. had to ship my mini from 1 country to another and in the process it sat around for 4 months. Battery was completely dead on arrival and couldn't be saved. Replaced the battery but have a list of issues I've ran into so far.

- Key is not being detected as being in the vehicle. Have to place it against the steering column.
- Infotainment system/center console is not starting up at all

Again this is list so far. Looking for someone that might know whats going on or has experienced it before. Thanks in advance.

When you replace the battery, it has to be coded to the car in order to work properly. If you didn't do this, that could very well be the cause of your issues.

Just to update this in case someone else is crazy like me and takes their car around the world. A couple language barriers here but what I understand is my car is trying to receive a GPS signal and it's not receiving it properly because I'm in Korea. This is causing the car to not start the center control console/infotainment system/etc.

I've had my car in 1 other country (besides USA) without this issue so I'm not sure if it's just Korea that has this problem.

I ran into 1 other owner of a US spec MINI here and he said it was resolved by removing the navigation from the computer.

Still at the closest service center to see if there is anything they can do and will update this post once I have a resolution.

The GPS satellites are there for, and by, the US Armed Forces. Civilians being able to also use them for Navigation is simply a bonus. I am not an expert in GPS, but I can't believe the US Armed Forces don't have the Korean Peninsula well covered.

Do you have a smartphone? There are apps that will display all the GPS satellites that it can "see". Give that a try and see if you can get at least 3 good signals.

There are GPS satellites. That's not the issue. The issue is a US spec MINI receiving a GPS signal that puts it in this country. I'm not sure about other countries besides here and UAE but I had no issues in UAE.

The center console would not function until the GPS receiver in the car was disabled. I don't speak Korean and they spoke limited English so I wasn't able to get specifics.

In the end my car functions properly now (except navigation).
