Hi everyone, I have a 2016 F55 radiator fan that is not turning on (low or high speed), so I removed it from the car to test just the fan itself. I plugged in 12V directly to the wiring harness as shown in the attached photo, but the fan did not move at all. I read that the 2nd gen Mini has a radiator fan resistor that can break and can cause the fan not to turn on. However, I can not find any information about the radiator fan resistor for 3rd gen (F55). I would appreciate if someone can point me to the right direction, so I can continue debugging. Thanks a lot.
The third pin on that connector is for the DME to send a signal to the controller that is built into the fan motor which activates the fan
The proper way to test would be to use a BMW specific diagnostic software (like INPA) where you can command the fan to turn on.

Thank you, Mr. Bean. For the diagnostic software, I have a $200 OBD2 scanner, but it only scans and clears codes. It does not allow me to turn on/off the radiator fan. From my research, there is a youtuber who used Autel MK908 to turn on/off the radiator fan, but that device costs $1800. Can you recommend a tool that can turn on/off the radiator fan at a more reasonable price, so I can debug my radiator fan?
Your cheapest option is probably to buy a cloned BMW ICOM for $150 and download INPA for free. BUT - and this is a big but - This software is notoriously finicky to set-up and get it working correctly.
There are other options but since your car is relatively new, those options are limited. I think Carly might work for you'll want to do some more homework on that (I have no experience with it).
