Made Some Simple Yet Transformative Mods

Hello all,

I added a few simple mods which really helped transform my JCW that I wanted to share.

My first mod was to address a problem I had:

JCW pro exhaust pops and bangs too loud in sport mode. Mid mode corrects this but you lose the throttle response.

Solution: Added a Remus responder and run the car in mid mode. Gained back throttle response and then some, and now rev freely and let off the gas without gunshots blasting people in the cars next to me with windows down.

I really can’t get get over how good the b46/48 engine sounds through the pro exhaust. Might I dare to say it’s the best 4 cyl sound on the road today? For those that haven’t tried this, fold down your rear seats, or at least the rear driver’s side rear seat. The difference in tone is intoxicating. I now look forward to any ascent to hear the exhaust under load.

Second mod was the craven speed shift ****. I’ve always loved the engagement of the shifter, but always felt the stock shift **** a little strange. While I lived with it for your years, the leather was getting all tattered and knarly looking, and rather than going the stock replacement route, I decided to go with Cravenspeed’s ****. It changes the whole experience and feels so good in your hand, weirdly making you feel more connected to the car. They do advertise this promise on their website, and I can now confirm.

Last mod was the NM module. I researched this heavily as I want to own this car a long time, and I know running more boost means more heat which means shortly life on engine parts. After seeing the torque levels of the jcw tune on the Cooper S easily surpass a stock JCW, I eventually decided a couple pounds extra boost on my JCW shouldn’t hurt much. It has been a great mod and I’m really enjoying the mid range punch.

After four years of ownership, I now feel like I have a completely new car. I hope this helps some of you.

Best,

Kevin

Hey Kevin, do me a favor- try checking for pops n bangs in standard mode, but with the traction control switch off. DTC mode I believe it's called. A single press of the switch, and "traction" appears on the dash. I'm getting a lot of nice pops, but less of the big bangs from Sport mode. Then again, I have a Bytetronic tune, which may be the reason. I'm going to post on the topic soon, hoping to make a little video demonstrating this phenomenon...

You're not the first person who said that changing the **** had a huge impact. I added a short shifter adapter recently and am wondering what this actually does since I do greatly enjoy the shifting experience.
