F55/F56 Preferred headlight lens treatment?
Preferred headlight lens treatment?
Hello. My almost 4 year old 2017 F55 is beginning the show the slightest bit of wear and cloud/fog on the headlight lens. Mine are base halogens, not the nice LEDs. To a normal person, you wouldn't notice, but I notice. You can see the beginnings of the finest little imperfections/scratches on the lens, which from what I understand is what will make that faded look happen soon. The car sits outside all year in cold and hot VA sun in the summer.
Should I treat them with some sort of protectant or sealant now before they get too bad? If so, what product do you all use? Something like a wax that a lay-person like me can do at home? Thanks!

If its on the outside, keeping the lenses waxed with your choice of car wax will keep them looking nice. If its on the inside, you have one of two options: either crack them open and clean 'em up, or you'll have to replace them.
Thanks for the reply. So it's "safe" to use car wax on headlights? I guess it's all about making sure you get every last micron of wax off the lens. I don't think these fine scratches are on the inside, thankfully.
Mothers NuLens kit it a good one if they are hazed over. I use the powerball and the nulens wax once a month after restore just to keep them nice. There is a 3000 grit buff pad if scratches don’t remove from powerball.

I've used this 3M headlight restoration kit on several cars, and it works well. You'll need an electric drill, a spray bottle for plain water, something to sit on, and some automotive body tape (won't hurt the paint when you remove it, available at auto parts stores). After you're done, any wax product will do to preserve the newly cleaned headlights. Re-reading OP's post, this will remove any fog/haze, however will not remove any pits in the plastic.
