F55 Replacement Remote Programming?

TL;DR I have a new remote and it won't unlock/lock the car.

I recently lost one of the remotes to my 2015 F55 so I bought a replacement from the dealer. I asked if it needed programming and they said that it comes pre-programmed as they needed my VIN to order it.

I picked it up at the dealer this morning, walked over to the car in the dealer’s lot, and it would not unlock the doors. I went back to the Parts desk and said it didn’t unlock the doors. One of the mechanics said that I needed to hold it up to the side of the steering wheel where the key symbol is. I tried that - I could start the car, but after turning the car off and closing the door the remote would not lock the doors.

I went back to the Service desk. They came out to my car and the same thing happened - the new remote would start the car but not lock the doors. One of the guys said that the car will program the new remote as I drive it around. He said to put my working remote in the boot on my drive home (about 25 miles) so the car would only sense the new remote.

I drove home and the new remote still won’t lock/unlock the car. Any idea if what’s going on or how to program the remote? The car does not have Comfort Access. A Google search and a search of this site is only returning results for R50s.

Haven't heard of it being a problem before. The remote will not lock or unlock your car until you initialize it to your car. If you also bought a slide in key make sure the new one matches your old key, if they don't it's possible the dealer ordered the wrong vin, mistakes happen. It's easy for the dealers parts department to confirm they ordered the correct vin.

When you program the new key make sure your other key is not in the car or it will pickup the other remote, I keep them at least 10 feet from the car. Put the back of the key fob flat against the passenger side of the steering column on top of the white key symbol and start the car the way you normally do. It may chime at you during this process, after it starts the remote will then work to lock and unlock you door. Comfort access doesn't need to be programmed on gen 3 fobs.

Thank you for the advice ... but ... no dice. I tried a few times yesterday - drove the car with the key next to the steering wheel for 30 minutes yesterday. I tried twice again today. Then I called the dealer and he walked me through it, but still no ability for the new remote to lock the doors. So they said that I need to bring the remote back. Stay tuned for updates.

Oops, I should have replied to this thread earlier. Problem solved! I had found the 'missing' remote in the boot under the cargo cover. That's why the new remote was having problems. My son had taken the car and after he went for a run, he was sitting in the back with the hatch open. Since he didn't need it to actually start the car (like using a key), he didn't realize that it had fallen out.

I know my 2013 RAM 1500 isn't happy with 2 fobs in the truck together.
