Water in the Boot

We've had heavy rain lately and I discovered water in the boot under the toolkit where the spare tire is attached underneath the car. It's not much so I thought it was splashing up through the hole with the bolt that secures the tire. But I checked again today and it's also wet above the well that holds the toolkit. There's actually water under the black plastic floor covering, which is also wet. I checked the backseat and floor but they feel dry.
  • Does anybody else have this problem?
  • Does anybody know where the water is coming from?
  • Is this an urgent problem or can it wait for my next scheduled maintenance (in 9k)?

TIA.

There was a long thread a while back concerning "Water in the boot". Don't recall what was decided or how it was resolved. Do a search back a bit (6 months or more) and you'll find this being addressed. Regardless, a trip to the dealership is in order. Likely there are more than just you and the other thread starter w/ this issue.

We just had a car at work for this problem. The seal around the hatch was leaking and allowed water in.

My 2018 had the seal around the hatch replaced. Dealer said it is fairly common. Bet that’s the culprit.

Thanks but I don't think that's the problem. The only place I've found water is underneath the black plastic on the right side of the boot where the toolkit sits. Plus, it rained all weekend when the car sat without moving, and it was dry. It only happens when I drive in the rain. I have a service appointment on Sunday. And as usual it's not supposed to rain over the next few days so it will probably be dry when I go.

I just registered to this forum to tell you my experience. I have that exact problem on a 2016 cooper. And the water appears exactly on the same place: "The only place I've found water is underneath the black plastic on the right side of the boot where the toolkit sits."

In my case, the problem is the seal around the hatch and the seal of the right rear light. The water runs along the sides of the boot and gets in there (lower section)

Thanks for the input.

It hasn't rained lately so I can't check but last time I did check I think it was only wet under the black plastic on the backseat side and in the toolkit well. I don't remember feeling water on the hatch side of the toolkit well. Plus it doesn't get wet when I wash the car or the car sits in the rain - only when I drive in the rain.

I had a service appointment today to fix it but had to cancel. Hopefully it won't rain too much until my next scheduled service.
