MINI affected in the US ?

BMW will to stop production of cars which use direct fuel injection, this concerns only petrol engines and includes MINI as well.

Reason missing „particle filter“ for the new Euronorm 6c,including the new WLTP test cycle, which will be mandatory for all new vehicles; Engines with direct injection may then only eject a fraction of the so far tolerated particles.
BMW CEO Peter Schwarzenbauer confirmed the production stop: "It will come on some models to scheduled supply interruptions at both BMW and Mini," he told the magazine "Automobilwoche".

If Im not mistaken, I think this is for the new EU exhaust standards. I wouldn't think it would mess up cars coming here though.

Im probably wrong.

yes that what I said so you knew already sorry. However if the Asia/ US production can compensate EU business i doubt.

Anyhow a remarkable step.

The article states that it is still unclear which EU mini's are affected, also it's not all BMW models as per the article and they are just temporary production/sale holds for around 9 months to a year.

One option is to go to dual-injection like the new Ford 5.0L's, where you have direct injection along with direct port injection for cleaning up the port walls and intake valve tops...along with tweaking emissions outputs.

Dual-injection isn't new, just how it is being applied and used. Here are a couple of articles to brush up on things:
