Needing wheels advice/help...

I have a new base Cooper 2-door hatch, and new wheels are at the top of my mod list for current mods. I have a few wheels in mind, but Im having some issues with finding what is the most aggressive wheel size I can put in front and rear when it comes to width. Also, if I choose to stick with a wheel that will be near/flush with the fender, what size will I need?

Here are three examples of wheels I have in mind.

I had 17X8 on mine for a couple months before I had the BBK installed. I think they were et45, but I won't swear to it.

Nice choices you're considering there... especially liking the Klutch. Only 16" though? Not that there's anything wrong with that... my wheels are 16, and I'm very happy about that.

There are a lot of posts on this topic already. 8" should be no problem, but it's more about your tire size and wheel offset. And even among the same tire size, some tires are just wider than others- ultimately you might not know until you try, if you're really trying to get the maximum. Oh, and how low you are matters too of course... so many factors.

Here's one tool that was handy for me when picking out wheels. Helps to compare to what you have already, or a known-good size.

Thanks for the link. I am considering 17's as well. The largest the Klutch wheels come in this particular model is 16. I contacted them and they dont expect any of the wheel Im interested in to be available for a while, so Im more looking at the Rotiform wheels now. I will go with 17x8, but I need to know the correct offset. I will be lowering the car, however, that will not be done until after I've received the wheels. That will give me a better idea of how low I'd like to go (or better yet, CAN go).

Just pay attention to the weights of the wheels and tires you are adding. You do not want to throw great looking "boat anchors" on your car. You will kill handling and performance (but you'll look good doing it).

Trust me, Im watching the weight. Especially since I dont have the same power that the S/JCW models have. Would anyone happen to know the weight of the stock 16" Heli wheels?

FWIW, you won't find much lighter than these. I have a set of 17's on my car. Ordered w/ the TPMS and a set of Condi Extreme DW's from Tire Rack delivered to my local Tire Kingdom for install.

Are these the wheels you are looking for? 26 Lbs each

Do you have a pic of these installed on your car? These having a 7" width, I'd need some spacers, as I want more of an aggressive stance.

Offset 43 is going to be perfectly flush with 205 tires and no spacers. Any wider tires would rub the fender. My wheels are +42, and they fit great with 205s. I wouldn't look too hard at wheel width when figuring out what fits. The width really only effects how the tire interfaces with the wheel. What you need to know is tire width and wheel offset. Read that huge wheel fitment thread a few times =) I think some people have been able to run 235s, but 225 would be a safer bet for max width.

to the OP, I think your car looks great as is. Why don't you like the wheels? Weight? I may be interested in them. I've got the 16" silver loops on mine, with tire they are 35 lbs each. Seems kinda heavy.

One thing I won't do is lower my car since it's low enough for this guy age 48.

This year I look forward to new tires, and ditching the run-flats, sway bar and links, engine mount bushing(s) and probably a Dinan sport.

35 lbs sounds pretty good for stock wheels. My special new 16" wheels are only 14 lbs. each, but total with 205 tires is 34.5 lbs. My stock 17ers weighed 40 lbs with half-worn run-flats. Oh, and losing the run-flats is indeed nice. Very happy with the new ride quality on the 16s.

I want to go with 205s, will be interesting to see weight difference. My car came with the 15s with Michelin Energy or whatever, and wow are they lighter than the 16s!

I shed 8 lbs of wheel weight at each corner w/ these wheels and tires. 6 lbs per wheel and 2 lbs per tire. 32lbs total
