F55/F56 My New MINI Is Dutch!
Confirmed - the website for my F55 says BORN but window sticker says Engine: Germany, Transmission: Japan, and Final Assembly; Oxford UK.
The VIN decoder is wrong. Not that any of it matters in the end.

There used to be a way to see the shipping records. Does that still work?
Put your VIN in Cargo ID I think, if it was shipped by WW. My VIN says no record found.

Thanks! Turns out my MINI was shipped on the Tijuca, not the Tuscana as the dealer told me!
According to the shipper tracking, it did indeed come from Southhampton!
On another note, it's at the dealer. I pick it up tomorrow!

If the 1st number of the last 7 in the VIN is a 2, the F56 was born in Oxford.
If the 1st number of the last 7 in the VIN is a 3, the F56 was born in Born.
Also, if the 1st number of the last 7 in the VIN is T, the car was born in Oxford. I think the T was the last gen 56.

I researched this diligently when trying to figure out when my 2016 F56 was built.
Also, the ships that load the Born-built MINIs in Zeebrugge stop in Southhampton on their way across the pond.
The VIN is the DNA of any car, and the VIN isn't wrong.

Ah. Just a quick perusal of over 100 2017 F56s for sale in the area shows only 2s and 3s as first of last 7 in the VIN.
Some pre-owned 2016s have a T and some have a 2. So, clearly the T mutated into the 2 for Oxford builds during the 2016 model year.
Why am I so interested in arcane tidbits like this?

I received my f57 mini and saw that it comprised parts from 5 different countries, shrugged my shoulders got in and drove it like it was stolen.
anyway most all American cars are not built in the us any more and are an amalgamation of parts from around the world.
I like the earlier post don't let it be a point to worry, get in and drive. (Fyi: just hit 20k miles and still have a few months to go before I hit the one year mark, guess who's driving with the top down during the winter... Oh yeah this guy!!!)
