MINI driving modes now optional

Was standard--now $500 option on Cooper. If not ordered, what is the default setting? Mid? Sport? Hope it's not Green.....

Interesting, was standard on my April 2016 build (if you are talking about the shifter bezel thing that cycles between Sport, Mid, and Eco/Green).

Looks like the ambient light feature is now a $250 option on the MCS.

The driving mode appears to be included in the MCS package somewhere. Maybe the JCW interior (as I was playing with the configuator)

I'll happily sell my ambient lighting for $250.

Me too! $200 - first thing I switched off. I gather we are talking the disco lights?

I drove a loaner Cooper in Scottsdale recently. I swear it didn't have that light ring thingy on the center display. It's optional right?

WTF? Really? That's total BS. I only drive our F54 Justa in Sport and the wife prefers Mid. The difference is night and day.

Only affects MY2017 Hardtops. SPORT/MID/GREEN will be a $500 option for Coopers or included with the Sport package. Without it, "MID" mode will be the default mode. Driving modes will be standard on the Cooper S and JCW.

The Ambient lights (the multi colored interior lights and the welcome lights on the outside door handles) are also going to be a $250 option for all Hardtops or part of the Premium Package. Without them, the interior lights will be orange with no option to change colors and there are no welcome lights.

Again, this only affects MY2017 HARDTOPS. Convertibles and Clubman will still have both standard.

They all have the light ring, but it can be turned off. It's likely that whomever had the car before you turned it off.

I have the mood lighting turned down so you only see it at night and set to orange to match the volcanic orange paint. The light ring was a little too much for me and I had to turn it off, tried to turn it down but it was still too bright.

I've set the ring to only light up when something happens, start, start-stop, connected device, enter driving mode, change volume, change air temperature. It's good feedback.

Wow, so the Sport Mode is now an option. That's pretty weak. I have to wonder if that's to increase the EPA gas mileage thing for the Mini brand in America. I've never NOT driven one of my Minis in the Sport Mode. You could hardly read the little button on my 2007 car I'd pushed it so many times!

Sport mode has been an option in most other places in the world since it was introduced on the R56.
