As far as software, I'm not sure. I don't have any aftermarket coding and I haven't seen any error messages or anything, so not sure if I still need to have it checked out. Everything is going as normal.

I just purchased the JCW BBK which I'll be installing myself. In the very basic, one page 'installation instructions' there is this statement:

Please note the following safety instructions:

- The DSC control system has been recoded to the 17" JCW brake system; if the serial brake system is re-fitted, your car must be re-coded again. Contact your BMW Service company for this.

not sure if this is that important or not.....just an FYI.

I think the programming effects the DSC, antilock system, and the ELSD to compensate for the additional braking effectiveness.

Brembo/Race Technologies used my car to measure for the development of their kit. So I went directly there to have them do all the measurements.

Jcw bbk works fine without coding system
As did All the bbk options for r53 and r56

The car ecu cannot know what tyres, or grip is availible from any road surface
So telling it you have fitted more effective stoppers seems a moot point

love the setup! What offset are your wheels? Are you lowered or running spacers? Any info would be much appreciated. I'm waiting on 18x8 offset 35 wheels and your setup is very tempting. (Probably need to convince my better half of signing over the kids to afford such setup)

The brakes are a front set. They don't make a rear.

Nice! I like the silver calipers over the typical choice of red.

I think that would be a really nice touch but I will say in person the Neuspeed tips perfectly contrast with the diffuser.

And thank you for the compliments!!

As i said very nice !

However the used Brembo rotors "only" cost 1800 Euros, without calipers, and are called "Track-Day" - Sets.

The original JCW Brake Kit ( you get the existing identical rear brakes again, only showered red - therefore try only to get the front brake) ist for me ok.

But i would go for the rotors with bell-housings, from AP or Brembo to fit the original, however single carriers with the right offset and pcd, i didn't find yet.

The weight reduction per wheel is approx 2 kgs and worthwhile.

This programming is needed for the DTC option and is most important to do on cars made after MINI dropped the mechanical LSD and replaced it with the eLSD. As noted you are not likely to see any issues just driving on the road or with earlier cars like the R56.

But if you are going to be doing autocross or track, where you are pushing the car to its limits, you will find that it will interfere, greatly. The eLSD will over brake the inside wheel causing the car to drag that wheel. As for aftermarket brakes (including the Brembo brand), the MINI dealers won't touch them. You need to find an indi mechanic with the right software to do this with, if you run into a problem.

Note this doesn't have anything to do with tires or brake pads. It all has to do the piston area of the calipers and how that matches to the ABS pump.

I have been through all of this with my Wilwoods to figure out why I was burning out a set of brake pads and had noticeable tire wear in 2-30 min sessions on the track.
