Rotate

Front tires are wearing on the front outside edge of the 2014S HDTP.
Thought I'd jack it up and move tires front to back.
Can I jack up an entire side with the floor jack?
there is a jack point about middle on the undercarriage rail.
Put a 2x4 chuck of wood there and jack up both front and rear simultaneously?
Anyone done this ?
Conceivable w/o damage?

I have done it on a z3 with 2x4.
You can also jack up front, put a stand, Jack up rear and put another stand. I place the jack about 8" away so I can put a jack stand on the jacking pad.

Front outside wear. Is that normal? If you consistently drive aggressively, I would put more negative camber on the front to let the tires have more contact with the surface

Fronts will wear out much faster than backs, typically on the outside edge. Rears wear out on the inside edge. Mini doesn't recommend a rotation on these because of the loss of grip, but I rotate my tires. Then again I work at the dealer and have access to a lift so for me its no biggie at all.

If you haven't done an alignment yet, its time. Typically we do an alignment once a year here in Utah because our roads are terrible.

Follow the above link and scroll down to the 'How a stud lifts a MINI' post. I do it every 5K miles to rotate the tires.

Outside wear on front tires

Have you ever had the toe-in checked?

To the lifting an entire side--you can do it, but I always played it safe with mine (one corner at a time + jack stands).

I would also agree with the suggestions to get alignment checked. The wear is only normal to a point...

Had no idea that Mini doesn't recommend tire rotation. I rotate every 5k miles. I have my dealer do it.

With a bad back and advancing age, don't need the aggravation nor opportunity for injury. I'm fine paying to ensure lugs are torqued properly and a visual done on undercarriage and suspension (free air too).

Only thing better than that is if there's a micro brewery down the street like there is at our indie.

Mini talks about tire rotation in the manuals, news to me that they don't. Think I believe what is printed.

My dealer recommends rotation. The thing you can't do is switch sides. My tread is different on the inner half of the tire maybe for water channeling?

Directional tires is front to back, non direction tires you can do side to side.

The pointy shaped moldings on the side of the tire that look like arrows indicate whether or not the tires are directional.

I jacked up an entire side of my 2014 F56 Mini recently; it's quite easy and no damage. Someone posted that if you draw an imaginary line down the side of your door at about the edge of your mirror (door handle side) that that is the center point to place a 2ft board underneath the frame of your car. I just happened to have a 2ft decking board which was perfect for this. Placed the board on the jack, jacked up the side of the car, and placed the jack stands underneath both jack points. Then did the other side of the car. It works perfectly folks. It's still a "relatively" light car!

Yup, BlimeyCabrio posted his blog with step by step AND pictures for just that process about 9 years ago. Still have that article in my favorites. It's titled "How a stud lifts a MINI". Blimey doesn't come around here any more.

consider this

your MINI comes with pre-paid routine maintenance

by saying rotation is not required they avoid people showing up for rotations every 5000 miles ... when oil would have them arriving only every 12,000 or more.

btw, using the front subframe mount as a location I can lift a GEN1 or 2 high enuf to get a set of stands on both jack pads. Been doing it for years. Have not played with anything later than a GEN2 but for these GENs easy peasy

I don't work on a car on a jack .... stands first or forgetaboutit.

Just did front to back rotation on F56. I was surprised that when lifting the front tire the rear came off the ground as well. I put a jack and stand on the back anway, but the 2x4 was not needed.

The lugs came off too easily which tells me that MINI didn't torque them properly after doing control arms. The rear wheels were stuck pretty tight and I had to give them a good kick to set them free.

Pirelli RF's don't look like they are going to last long.
