I expected lower restriction would just result in lower turbo spindle rpm necessary to achieve commanded boost, and if WOT on a stock tune asks for say 10psi in the intake manifold, it would be the same in either case.
I thought the payoff comes when we tune for a lot more boost, in which pressure drop upstream of the turbo is hard for a turbo to overcome without overspeeding or having intolerable lag.
I'm probably missing something?

I just bought a S 4 door yesterday, and also ordered a AWE CAI, I have been using AWE products for a long time (my Panamera 4S is the car in AWE exhaust video), and I have some of their products on my other Porsche as well. I am trying to decide between the Berger and NW piggy back, and I also ordered a throttle controller (I have them on every modern car I hate drive by wire). I happen to live not far from AWE and can remember when they first started out (I am one of those old guys), been taking cars apart for about 45 years). My new C7 Z51 is getting the treatment this week. Say hi to Todd, I remember that old spot when it was just him.

Just ordered the AWE CAI. I thought long and hard about the ArmaSpeed unit, but even with their generous discount I just couldn't afford it. I still have springs and a RSB to buy.

Well I hope that other vendors make products that actually fit the Mini, sending back AWE unit wholes where not cut right, not pleased at all I guess they do better with expensive cars, Who makes a CAI that might actually fit don't care what it costs. Or am I going to have to start designing car parts myself again!

Well lets say it did eventually fit but had to use some tools to widen the whole where MAF sensor does, not sure if this may be just a problem when mine was manufactured or if they all are like this. With the JB4 this unit and the throttle controller this little thing moves a lot better. Be communicating with Terry Berger (seems like a good guy) and I think they will have better operating instructions soon for the JB4. None of you here know me but I have been doing this stuff a long time (over 45 years) and AWE makes good products but every now and then a piece comes through that is not perfect, I just happen to have gotten that piece, no big deal unit is in.

I got a call from Josh yesterday. It seems that a few of the early release units have a slightly thicker clear coat on the finish. This may cause the MAF hole to be a couple thousandths of an inch smaller than they should be. The replacement will arrive tomorrow, but I'm going to try to install the original unit today. If it is that close I'll try polishing the inside surface with some fine sand paper and see if it'll fit. All it'll cost me is a few extra minutes. Either way Josh and AWE will take care of you. I'll post later on my results.

I decided to not attempt the fix. My replacement part arrived today. Josh at AWE had it sent Fedex overnight so I could get it installed for the weekend. Everything went together and the install was a breeze. Sounds good and looks great!

Any noticeable performance gains? For $400 I'm looking for more than sound and looks.

When you're adding 9hp to 250+ you would need a dyno to tell the difference. My butt dyno is not finely calibrated enough.

How many miles have you put on your Mini since you installed the intake?

Car only has 100 miles on it, it is my spring and summer dog transport car. I took out the CAI and no more noise.

I am not going to sell this because of the noises it makes. My unit had to be made to fit the sensor and no one would leave this in their car making this sound, so I must assume this unit is defective. I did not buy from AWE so I will contact the seller. Sorry group but I do not sell things that I am unsure of.

Dead easy to check an intake for leaks - poke around with some propane and listen for rpm changes. But you knew that.

With the JB4 and the throttle controller getting rid of the wire by wire lag, I doubt I'd even feel whatever power the CAI would add, so I have already contacted the merchant to return it.

I have been using Throttle controllers since they first came out, I have sprint boosters in my BMW650i, my C7 and in the Panamera, a pedal commander in my Supercharged Range Rover and my girlfriends MBGL550, and I had a Go pedal in my Abarth (which I am pretty sure is made by the same people who make the pedal commander), so I bought the mini version of the go pedal when I bought the AWE unit. Install took 5 minutes and though it adds no power you sure feel like it does.
