I agree too!
A simple switch with a relay, would have done it

Gotta be cheaper than a $280 BT remote!

Quick update... My dealer has been working with MINI engineers on my exhaust flap issue and they wanted to try another remote again to completely rule out the remote control as the issue. New remote was received today and the flap closed within about a minute. They then decided to order me a whole new JCW exhaust kit... Should be here in a week or so. Heading up to the Dragon on Sunday so will have to deal with it when I get back. For the moment, I have the rear exhaust module unplugged so that the flap stays open all the time

Could post how you did the disconnect. I'm sure many of us would prefer to keep the flap open all the time anyway.

This is one of the issues I have had with this pro-exhaust kit all along.

When the exhaust flap is "closed" all of the exhaust (well most of it) goes through the muffler via "one pipe", thus being "more restrictive" than the stock setup where both pipes go through the muffler! Only when the flap is "open" do you get the better sound and "full use of the two pipes"! This is the main reason I'd opt for the AWE exhaust system, or similar, if I ever get away from my stock JCW exhaust (which really isn't all that bad)!

Many thanks.

Beats wedging a Popsicle stick in the baffle.

Yes, thank you Pedro - I can patiently wait for a fix now, too. Although, quite frankly, this is the best fix of all.

Funny you should ask lol. Dropped off my car at the dealer today to get a new kit installed. Think they are going to replace the control module first and work from there... Will post updates later when I get my MINI back

Recently had the JCW exhaust and tune installed, and while I haven't investigated fully, I believe I have the same problem as described in this thread. So, because I desired more speed over and above the mini tune, I added the NM Engineering black box and now my mini is scary fast from 2nd gear on, and I'm very pleased. Additionally, I'm an older guy that really doesn't care for exhaust popping, even tuning it completely out of my stage 2 harley soft tail. To sum it up, I now put my mini in sport mode without bothering to open or observe the behavior of the exhaust valve, and zoom around town more than I probably should. Having said all that, I will continue to follow this thread with interest.

I look forward to reading the update. I am on the fence about pulling the trigger on this upgrade.

My dealer hasn't been able to figure it out yet. They asked me to drive it around without any Bluetooth devices turned on. I did that and it worked perfectly until I pulled back into my parking garage, where it closed on its own again. I'm going to try and duplicate the issue in the same area to see what might be getting transmitted there.

Picked up my car tonight from the dealer after they replaced the control module and remote (we didn't see much point in replacing the actual exhaust) and I drove it for 1 hour straight to a MINI meet and the flap stayed open the ENTIRE TIME!!!!! Keep in mind, prior to replacing the control module and remote, the flap would only stay open for a few minutes before shutting.

I then drove home from the MINI meet which was also an hour drive and the flap remained open the ENTIRE TIME!!! WHOOO WHOOO!!!!!

FINALLY I think we may have this thing fixed since it has not closed yet while the car has been on. Will test more tomorrow and report back but so far so good!

Pedro - do you connect your phone to your car by Bluetooth, and if so, have you done so after the fix? Just wondering since my dealer and MINI are asking me to test my system without connecting my phone to see if the Bluetooth interference is coming from my phone.

Thanks

I have lots of BT going on lol:

- iPhone to car
- Escort Max 360 to phone
- Apple Watch to phone
- GoPoint OBDII to phone

Before the module replacement I removed all BT devices and flap still closed...

Last night with all these BT devices on and the new control module, everything worked flawlessly. Pretty much proves BT interference is not an issue.

Well guys... some bad news... After working flawlessly for the first day, the flap closed on me 3-4 times today for no reason... Will see what the dealer wants to do next...

Oh no... Sorry to hear that the issue is back. Perhaps there is a component in the muffler that might be over heating and it automatically closes the flap... Just a thought. Good luck!
