Has anyone removed / replaced their front chrome grill frame ? Is it something that someone with no experience with such things be able to do? I'm thinking about replacing my current one with one painted black.

Interested to hear responses on this also. I'm wanting to pull the chrome cross piece on mine and replace with a red painted one or a JCW OEM piece.

 

I just recently swapped the grille on my car for a mesh style from an "S". The bumper cover/assembly must be removed in order to get to the clips that hold the front trim pieces in place. I used this thread as a step-by-step walkthrough and it was very simple:
