Any one using this bike rack? It mounts on the hatch door, attaches at the top without clips ( strap goes inside) and on the sides of the hatch door. Holds 2 bikes

Looks like it will work just looking for others experience

2015 Cooper S

I dont have the roof rack rails, dont want to haul on the roof. No hatch prep, no hitch.

I want to use a rack that hangs off the back.

What works ?

I almost bought that, but got worried with how the straps are strapped to the roof (scratching the spoiler/roof). Check out www.vipcustomparts.com , I just bought their bike rack, and cannot wait to get it in. I also didn't want to haul on the roof, wanted it on the back...

I went ahead and ordered the rack listed in title. Didnt see your post until after I had ordered. The rack I ordered has pads attached to straps that go inside the top of the hatch on the car and is trapped there when the hatch closes. So you dont have to use the metal padded clips on top of the hatch. The rack is being shipped now. Once I use it I will give a report.

One reason I did order it is it can be used with another car I have ,making it more useful.

I got the rack in and installed it. The installation was very easy. I didnt need the instructions to mount it on the car. All the straps are marked as to where they attach. It has two straps made for hatch back cars that have pads that go inside the car at the top of the hatch, so you dont have hooks that scratch up the top of the hatch. ( The pads are a little bit of a pain since you have to remove the strap side to remove and install because the pad is to big to fit thru the gap at the top of the hatch with the hatch open) There are two side says, one for each side and two bottom stays. Attchments to the Mini are plastic coated metal hooks at all locations except top of Hatch. I put it on the first time in about 20 min. Took it off in about 7 minutes. It is very sturdy and is made very well. Straps adjust nice and firm. And it has large pads that protect the glass and license plate where the frame is supported. It is only rated for hauling two bikes (60lbs) when you use the pads and the pads should be used to protect the top of the hatch. There is a strap that goes thru the wheels and rack frame to keep the wheels from spinning and to further attach the bikes to the frame of the bike rack

I was concerned that the top straps might put to much strain on the spoiler on the hatch but since I have put it on and seen how it mounts I dont have a concern with the spoiler. There is a Youtube video on installation on a 2013 or 2014 Mini hatchback. I installed it on a 2015 Cooper S 2 door Hatchback. I'm pleased with the way it works.
