F55/F56 Fuel Efficiency
I think I am falling in love with this man
PS- And let me add that I have the latest software update and green mode has a bit more pep, a bit less fuel economy and still coasts at speeds above 50 km/hr for all you metric folk!

Last month I took our Countryman ALL4 in for warranty service (2 days) and they gave me a 2015 S hardtop automatic loaner. I was interested in testing the coast mode. I checked the menu and it was checked. However the car NEVER coasted (out of gear N coast). I drove it 320 miles on the freeway at 65-70 mph, and could not get it to coast when I lifted all the way off. RPM stayed at normal cruising RPM, and gradually decreased as speed was bled off. Car was warm, conditions perfect (65F air temp), no wind.
I did get terrific MPG however; true 38 MPG using miles/gallons used. I'm impressed. Just wish it would coast.

That's horrible! A guy on the Coupe forum posted some track laps he took in his JCW Coupe (he passed some pretty fast mobiles too), he said he got 11MPG.
Lol well i was at WOT in only 2nd and 3rd gear nearly the whole time...
For those who have the Coasting option in GREEN mode settings, but the car doesn't seem to coast:
I did some digging and there is apparently a bulletin about this from MINI. It is caused by an error that can occur while updating the programming. If you are having these symptoms, see the dealer - I think they are rolling out the fix now.

In the meantime, a friend and I conducted a very unscientific poll, we drove to two different local dealerships, and test drove two MINI's each; 4 in total: two 2015 S models, and two Justas to check if the new models had the "coast" mode functionality.
Here's what we found:
2015 F56 S #1 - YES
2015 F56 S #2 - NO
2015 F56 #1 - NO
2015 F56 #2 - YES
There seems to be no discernible rhyme nor reason for why some cars had this enabled, and other's not. I can't seem to figure it out. siriuszero's post may seem to explain the apparent randomness.
Hopefully MINI will at least have a fix for those of us seeing this issue with our cars. Unfortunately since this isn't a safety relate issue, only those who complain may get the fix. I know I've been beating a dead horse with my SA since I noticed this issue last year. I'm glad MINI is moving on this issue.
siriuszero, if you can, can you please keep us (me) posted! LOL

How timely! I've already got a message into my MA asking for more info about this update.

Sounds like either way, it's on MINIs radar. I would probably reach out directly to a service advisor instead of your MA though... They tend to know nothing about stuff that happens to the cars AFTER they've been sold...
This coasting feature disappearing on some cars is just as bad as the rev-matching not being on the '15 S cars.
Mini needs to get their sh*t together. Advertising features and then not having it on cars. Is anyone in charge over there????

I'd be curious to know what the production dates were on those you drove. From what I understand, this only affected F5Xs up to 10/31/14. I'm hearing this all secondhand so make with it what you will.

EDIT: I see it's an SD, which I assume is a diesel. We can't get that car, that's cheating!

But for me It's still far cheaper a-b than when I was getting from my 280 bhp r53,
about $100.00 for 300 miles
I have a '14 MCS manual, and I drive freeway speeds (55 - 65) 60 %, town speeds (sub 40) 40%:
Green: ~36 mpg
Normal: ~33 mpg
Sport: ~31 mpg
Granted: 60% of the time on freeway is in green mode, the other 40% is trying to get my badges for speed/shifting

I posted a topic about this, I've had my 2015 MCS for 3 days and I can't believe how much gas I've gone through. I previously had an 04' MCS and the gas mileage was superb. I do a lot of city driving, which I obviously know eats the mpg stats, but my car says I'm averaging 22.9 mpg. I'm horrified and honestly really bummed. Anyone have any suggestions, or is this just the way 3rd gen minis roll?
To make things worse, the instrument cluster is way too optimistic, almost a lie. It showed 35.7 MPG when I actually calculated 32.9 MPG at the pump. The gas fill up before this one was also similar, so I know it's not a partial gas fill or any calculation error.
Here's my fuelly.com stat.
I guess 32 MPG I get is not too bad.

Well thats a shame. I don't think anything could be gone funky and out of sorts, but my boyfriends turbo subaru forester gets better mpg around the city than my MINI. I'm rather annoyed at the ~20mpg.

okayyyy. Well, I'm a younger gal who truly loves cars, with bucketloads of pics of my past mini, and new, to prove. The reason I joined was because of this fuel issue. I would even take photos of the 22.9mpg that is ever-present below the speedometer. Go ahead and think I'm a troll, I love minis to death, but I'm a little bummed at the fuel situation and I'm actually looking for some insight, so thank you, but I'm no such troll.
Also, just you saying this, thinking I'm trying to cause a rouse about my mileage, makes me think I actually have a problem on my hands and need to get it looked at.

R53's will never be close in mpg/
Sorry, But I still think that you're a troll. I have owned 2 R56S' with manual trannies, and now a '15F56S with sport auto. My first two cars consistently got better gas mileage than my fellow R53 owners on runs. My new F56 seems to get about the same mileage as my previous Minis in normal or spirited driving ( noted with increased performance), but if I cruise at moderate speeds while traveling, my new car gets much better gas mileage.

I drove the car off the lot having 58 miles on it. My odometer now reads 215, the gas was filled to the second bar from the top at pickup time, and I'm now on the second to last bar. Of course I would think cars get better as far as gas mileage goes as they progress, and I realize I'm doing mostly city driving, but I'm a little alarmed. I was hoping someone would offer advice, but I guess I'll just let you keep marking your territory as being the "cool guy" on the forum for calling out the troll.
Driving location/elevation and habits vary from owner to owner, so mpg's will vary too. Some warm their cars up until they are nice and toasty inside before their commute while others just hop in and go. Some are quick at the red and green while others roll in and out.
Maybe you have a short commute around Denver and it never has time to warm up fully, maybe its in sport mode 24/7 ? Hard to say unless we have more information or see what you do for a typical drive....maybe a trip to the dealer registering this complaint is in order.
GL!
