Someone please explain traction control?

I have an MCS with manual gearbox.

By default, I always presumed traction control was activated. However, I can leave an inch of rubber on the road if I so desire.

Pressing the rocker for TC gives me a little icon on the speedo that indicates "off", yet the message on the center display indicates otherwise? I also believe I read that holding the TC rocker for a couple seconds will "completely disable" all driving aids.

Can someone please give me the ins and outs of this system?

I'm with you on this one. I was in for a second test drive (while I wait for delivery) and it was wet. I put my foot down in a slow corner to induce some wheel spinning understeer and there was no intervention from any system. I was a bit confused.

At all times the traction control will be on unless you press/hold the toggle switch. If you press it once, it activates "dynamic stability control" which allows for some wheel slip and a more enhanced driving experience. At this point, TC is still partially engaging and to my knowledge you can't just dump the clutch and do a burnout- lol. Then if you hold the toggle switch down for ~5 seconds it will completely disable traction control and all driver aids including the auto rev matching feature on the manual transmission. At this point the car should feel totally unrestricted and traction control is fully disengaged. You should know by having a warning pop up on both your radio screen and your dashboard.

I think that pretty much sums it up, anyone feel free to chime in if I got something wrong or missed something

Most people find that a litle wheel spin is better than none otherwise you will find that you do not accelerate as quickly.

The traction control on my old F53 would allow no spin, so setting of from a road exit when joining a main road would sometimes be a bit hairy when the car bogged down when the wheels tried to spin.

DSC is on by default. DSC is turned off and DTC is turned on with a press of the button. Pressing the button again deactivates DTC. This, along with an explanation of all of the nanny systems, is in the 2014 Hardtop owners manual found at MINIUSA.COM.

Yes. Gave it another read last night and it didn't make sense to me. Your concise explanation helped though. Thx.

I forget which one of these D's isn't standard equiptment (the other one is, maybe DTC)). One just works on front wheel spin and the optional one can use the brakes on all 4 wheels if needed is that I remember.

I've been wondering about this too, and all this makes sense.

When would one want to turn off all driving aids? I'm assuming you'd lose the "virtual LSD" system where its using the brakes to stop the spinning wheel, and that would be bad in a go-fast situation. Right? What are people doing for auto-x, for example?

They tend to turn it off because wheelspin can help steer the car in turns (if you know what you're doing). I never got that with FWD cars but what do I know?

DTC is for conditions where some slip will help such as driving in the snow. Turning all traction control off allows for faster acceleration out of corners. Autox courses tend to be mostly corners. With DSC on I don't need to brake on most autox courses, and the time is really slow.

Unless it has changed for Gen 3's you can't turn off the braking of one front wheel to limit wheelspin.
