Windshield availability?

Anyone else lose a windshield yet? Had a rock go halfway through mine yesterday and they're having to ship one in from Miami.

I haven't had a glass problem yet. I have read in these forums that there is some kind of a 'mystery' method to installing a Mini windshield and it seems the opinion here is to have it done by someone experienced with replacing Mini windshields or else have your Mini dealer do it.

Yikes!
How big was the rock and how did it happen? I had something hit my windshield this AM going to work. I was passing a big rig but it was raining so hard when it happened that I only heard it happen. Never saw a thing. I couldn't find any evidence on the body when I got to work so I believe it hit the glass. But it was a good sharp sound when it hit so it was a hard hit.

Sharp edged and the size of a half-dollar. Wife was doing about 35MPH and passed a logging truck up on the Blue Ridge Parkway yesterday.

Got hit by a rock or something on the freeway about a month back. 12-inch crack.
Mini dealer wanted around $1200 to replace it. Safelite (national chain) charged less than $500 for the OEM windshiled installed. BTW, at that point there was no aftermarket glass available for the F56.

Safelite is 0 for 3 on the windshield replacement so far... brought 3 wrong windshields. :(

The windshield was the only factory replacement warranty thing I paid for when we bought our F56, for exactly this reason. The warrany cost was $500 at that time but I figured the OEM replacement from Mini would be at least $1K, so it made sense (unlike the "tire warranty", "wheel warranty", etc.).
