Only on the 4 cylinder models. Correct.

has anyone removed the ASD module completely and had the dealer code it out?

Just use the Technic bypass harness because when they code it out it reinstalls every time there is an upgrade and the recode costs more than the harness that still sees it in the CANBUS.

do you have a link to the harness? and if I use that harness will i not need to have it coded out? Sorry, this is an area of cars that I've not researched much.

Quick hypothetical question, what happens if you pass the audio after the ASD without the bypass? Would you be amplify whatever the ASD is doing to dampen the noise?

Correct. It is one or the other. The only advantage of the mechanical bypass is that it will stay even with a software upgrade.

Completely replaced the HK amp and speaker in my MCS. I had a harness that I made and it was cutting out on one channel. So I took it off and plugged in the ASD while I found the problem wire. The car sounded like it was a race car on the inside. Very, very noisy as the ASD is tuned to run with the stock radio or HK system.

Just to make sure I'm getting it (dont get mad plz), disabling/unplugging the ASD made it sound like a race car inside, correct? So would that be the same result if you code it out? Would just patching after the ASD (w/o disabling it) avoid this problem?

If you use an aftermarket amp and don't bypass the asd it will disproportionately amplify the fake engine sound.

But disabling it (software or hardware) would give you the loud (unwanted?) race car sound?

For future reference, dealer SA either didn't know what I was talking about or refused to even consider the request. Bought cable, failed on first attempt to code it out, but second try I was more acclimated to the software and done in 10 minutes. Much prefer the quiet of no ASD.

And the purpose of doing this is ... what? It's not intrusive. I agree there should be an option to turn it off if it bothers you, but I have no issues with it.

Quieter cabin, some like that (me) and others prefer the noise. Didn't realize how much I disliked it until it was gone.

Mine is plenty quiet, especially on the road. In fact ... probably a bit too quiet. I didn't buy a JCW for it's limo qualities.

I think the fake sound exists to cover up the insane noise the runflats make.

I turned off the ASD in my car because I prefer to hear what the engine is actually doing and man are the runflats deafening and I only have 6k on them.

I'm wondering if the ASD affects the sound quality of the HK system. My 2015 Justa HK sounded a lot better than my '17 JCW's HK.........or am I just imagining it?

Seems every year brings new wrinkles to HK sound. Does your 17 have the harman/kardon® Logic 7® Digital Surround ?

Run your vin# with Bimmer.work . My HK build was option 674. Of course they keep tweaking all the components so one year doesn't always sound the same as the next. You can see all the amp revisions if you look on realoem.com for your car.

Looks like the HK amp used with the ASD is a different unit entirely from the HK I had in my 2015 Justa. Thanks for the links.

I assume the volume of the fake sound doesn't go up when you turn up the music, so maybe the music drowns it out at high volume. I know my exhaust fake burbles are louder in the Sport Mode and almost nonexistent in normal mode.
I don't mind it at all. It doesn't seem to interfere w/ the radio anymore that a normal exhaust noise would w/o the feature.

Certainly understand those that would disable it to actually hear their car.

I drive in green mode when I want to hear the stereo and talk at conversation level. Would be nice to be able to turn ASD off in the car settings. After driving a MX5 with sport exhaust, I'd rather hear the actual engine much of the time,

ASD reminds me of being a kid in the early 80's with an electronic engine noise twist grip on my bicycle lol.

Not a fan of the amplified exhaust tone prefer to hear the car sounds on its own. I used Carly to disable ASD.
