rear hatch light

Any way to turn off the rear hatch light when the hatch is open?
It is the light on the passenger side just forward of the rear tail light.
The hatch is open for over an hour when I am washing the vehicle.

Disconnect the bulb or find the switch that turns in on and tape it down.

That bulb gets extremely hot! I swapped mine out for an LED bulb. It should have been LED from the start. All the rest are!

Hot means amps = battery drain.

I leave the hatch open almost all the time the car sits in the garage, and the light goes off w/in 15 minutes.

Can you tell me what size the bulb is? What shape? Thanks!

I also swapped my trunk light on my Mazda CX-5. It's nice to have a very low power LED light back there.

I was having trouble pulling that housing out, and finally got it out. The trick is to open the soft panel (to access brake lights) off first, and then put your hand in there, use your finger to unlock the clip from the back towards the front of the car. See pics so you don't snap them like I almost did.

Press the clip towards the front (1) while pressing it out (2).

I have the bulbs on order, and will definitely replace this bulb. It gets so hot, which uses up a lot of battery and doesn't seem to turn off for a long time.

If you want to keep it off while working on it, pull fuse 70.
