Jacking Points

Jacking points on the F56 may become critical as owners change to coil overs, replace pads, rotate tires etc.
Perhaps safe jacking points, jacks, and pics would be an appropriate topic.
Lug nut torque is also critical.

The jacking points are very well defined on the F56's. They're small rectangular boxes for a jack pad. There's two behind the front wheels and two more ahead of the rear wheels. Just look under your car, you can't miss them.

As to lug torque, I believe it's 105 ft lbs for us folk on this side of the pond (142 Nm for those on the other).

Scroll down to the blog post "How a stud lifts a MINI"
It is also handy for rotating the tires every 5,000 miles.

So is there no jack point under the front and rear center? Crossmember or subframe that's safe?

If that's the case that will be super annoying for the DIYers.

Interested in this as well, need to put the car on jackstands occasionally if I want to get under it for exhaust, oil changes, spring/coil install, etc...

It's a good idea too because a regular floor jack can and will totally **** up your jack points. Why they're crappy plastic is beyond me.

The F56 has four jack locations, two on each side of the car. This setup is nearly identical the one used on the R56. This topic is discussed in the R56 section.

In order to get all four wheels off the ground and place the car on jack-stands, you may ask: If there are only four jack locations, where do I jack up the car in order to place the jack-stands in those four locations?

Heres what i did on my old R56 and my F56 to get all four wheels of the ground:

1 - Place a 2 or 3 foot long 2X4 or 2X6 under a solid portion of the under-body (under the door, between the two lack locations). The purpose of the board is to spread the weight over a large area while jacking up the car.

2 - Place a floor jack under the board, raise one side of the car, then insert two jack-stands under the the two jack points. Lower and remove the floor jack.

3 - Go to the other side of the car, and repeat steps 1 and 2.

This has worked for me when rotating tires, changing brake fluid, auto trans fluid, etc.

Is there something for the jack stand that won't mess up the OEM Factory jacking point?

I know they make adapters for floor jack.
But if there are no adapter for the jack, it will just mess up that spot anyways.
SO what is the purpose of having the adapter...?

I usually put a piece of wood between the floor jack and jacking point.
Not sure this will help the plastic?

I should have mentioned that i used hardwood blocks to fit into the plastic inserts under the car. Whatever works to prevent damage.

Kevin.

There is no subframe area in the center strong enough for a jack? That's unfortunate and very discouraging to backyard wrenching.

Triple, go back to the URL I posted and follow it all the way thru. I put mine up on floor stands fairly often especially when rotating the tires. It ain't rocket surgery. There's near 150K members and almost 4 million posts on this forum. The F series is around a year old. All these Gen 1 and Gen 2 people have battled almost everything there is to battle on these wee beasties and this issue has been hashed over completely prior to this.
