F55/F56 In-Transit fault, problem starting car
In-Transit fault, problem starting car
After about 5 hours of highway driving with a couple of stops, I stopped my MCS for about 45 minutes. When I tried to restart, I got a message that the Transmission was not in Park. As far as I could tell, it was. I got this message a couple of times. The car seemed to run for 5-10 seconds and shut down. I tried to start it many times with no success. I let it sit for about 30 minutes, and it restarted. Fortunately, I was only 2 miles from a MINI dealer and they were still open. I drove over there and left the car running. After explaining my issue and getting told that he had no idea what the problem was, I was the first 2014 to be brought in for service, and it would take an hour to put it on a machine to check it out, I was looking for a better feeling than he was giving me.
Since I did not walk away, he thought about checking the fob for fault codes. At this point, the car had about 500 miles on it. The fob showed a couple of "in transit" faults at 124 miles. It appears that there is an in transit mode that restricts some of the performance of the car. I had not noticed any issues with performance while driving it. Somehow it either never got set right before I picked it up, or it got reset to that mode. The SA did not know if this would fix the problem, but they reset everything, cleared all the codes, and made sure the "software" was correct. I had no issues with multiple restarts and put another 400 + miles on it since then.
In the end, the SA at this dealer did a good job for me. I will find an opportunity to take the car into my dealer to check it again. Hopefully this "reboot" fixed it.
Anyone else had this problem?

I have not had similar problems. But since it was such low mileage, and you have not had any issues since, I would assume the service dept was correct. At least, right now. If there are any other problems, please keep us informed.

I have not had that problem, but I have heard of it happening with BMWs where the car was not properly prepped by the dealer, and was still in "transit mode". You should be fine now, given what you reported the dealer did to correct the problem.
