Let's say I'm at a red light and I need to reverse a little because I stopped a bit over the crossing line. Will the sensors alert me of the surroundings as if I was parking?

That sounds a bit cumbersome, even while parking. Can anyone who has PDC on his F56 advice?

 

Did you consider trying it out in a parking lot? Gen 1 backup sensors work all the time when the gear box is in reverse. Don't know why things should be any different.

 

And what about the front sensors?

 

When you shift into reverse the park sensors will detect.

 

I am curious about the front sensors as well. I ordered the park assist package on my F56 and was wondering about the front sensors working stand alone and not only when using the parallel parking feature...

 

On this F30 BMW I'm driving, there is a button to activate the park sensors and reverse cam without you having to be in reverse. I assume the toggle switch will function the same way...if you have the park assist package.

System should activate automatically when put into reverse regardless though.

 

It's all described in detail in the Owner's Manual.

In summary, it's always activated in reverse gear, and forward is activated when speed is below 2 mph. You can also manually turn activation on or off.
