Extended Warranties

Hello,

I am interested to find out the following extended warranties related questions. I'd appreciate if someone can share some information from their purchase experience or previous Mini ownership experience.
- mileage and year which the extended warranties covered beyond the new car warranties and pricing/term?
- can I defer extended warranties purchase to a later time, say within the first year, or do I have to purchase it when signing new car purchase contract? How would that affect pricing/term?
- what items/services are covered and not covered?
- Will you consider extended warranties if you intended to keep the car for 10 years or 150K miles?

Not directly applicable to Mini but I was told by a friend who owns(ed) both BMWs and MBs that the basic charge for a computer analysis is $600. A sensor replacement would cost $1200 and there are quite a few sensors in these European cars.

Thanks,

Found some info. Different coverage plans breaking down by, L, XL, XXL for up to 7 yrs or 100K miles. Not sure about the pricing.

Quoting from a reply from the link below for an '08 Mini,"The previous owner had paid $2,700 for a 100,000 mile". That means I will be paying $2700 to cover 2 more years without inflation adjustment. I will probably pass.

I'm one that considers extended warranties in the same class as snake oil. Sure there are occasional winners but just like Las Vegas the house 'always' wins in the end.

You do not have to buy the extended when you buy the car, you can buy it later. I am pretty sure the extendeds are through a 3rd party, not like the original factory warranty, so read it carefully for exclusions. Finally the price of extendeds is negotiable. When we bought my wife's 2004 Mazda the sales person cut the price in half as I walked out (and I still didn't buy it). It was like a time share pitch lol.
